How does the radius clause affect you?

From my experience its not so much the area that you are playing, its that the promoters get upset about you playing a gig at a bar down the street a week or two away from his promoted gig with you. Whether it be a week before or a week after.

has anyone else dealt with this? How do you feel about this radius clause concept?

sure, lots of venues/agents/promoters/bands (even audiences!) expect certain conditions and a "radius clause" is but one.

in your case: sweet talk the guy into "accepting" your solution = packing the house! then go from there for future events.

I remember some promoter trying to pull this type of shizzbo with one of my bands back in the day because we had a show booked in Raleigh within a couple of weeks of a show in Chapel Hill. Two unrelated cities 40 miles apart. I am quite certain we told him to pound sand and did both gigs just fine.
