How good are SX basses?

To one other point in the original posters post:

I think these basses could be used a someone's primary gigging bass. And regarding the basses I am comparing them to I also own an 81 stingray, a 78 P, and a 06 HW1 Jazz (and a few others.)

So, I have played some decent basses before.

As far as Rondo standing behind their product....I haven't bought anything from them, but I think their eBay Feedback speaks very well of how they do business...I doubt you will find anyone else with that type of feedback with the volume they do!! It's near perfect! And I have heard nothing but great things from everyone here.

For some reason a lot of posters here have a hard time admitting that SX basses are a good value for the money. They refuse to acknowledge that a cheap bass made in China can play and sound good. It's their loss I guess.

I don't think that it's so much that folks here at TB hate
any value made bass that offers some serious bang for the
buck made anywhere. It's been that a few delighted SX
owners started doing the ' How stupid are Fender owners
for spending hundreds of dollars more, when my 100 dollar
SX is the best thing scince sliced bread!' style of bashing.

I love a good bang for the buck instrument like the next
person as much as I love a high dollar quality piece.If there
is any hate here for SX basses it's been the result of the few
overly obnoxious SX lovers that got a little bit too enthused.

I beleive you all when you say SX basses are a great value.
I also have to take things with a grain of salt when a lot of
SX fans here start talking about all of the mods and parts
swapping they've done on their ' Just as good as any Fender!'
basses. With that said I'd like to try one as 100 bucks or so
on a decent enough bass might make a great gift or even an extra
'beater' bass to have on hand.

I agree.

I don't think it's fair to compare basses. Each company makes their basses for different audiences and has different manufacturing methods.

SX basses are cheap, but playable. Fenders are expensive, but playable. Will an SX ever compare to a Fender? No. They are not designed to. They're are not aimed at the same audience.

Are you stupid to spend $500 on a Fender and not $150 on an SX. No, depending on your needs. Can an SX be useable in the same circumstances as a Fender. Yes.

Has anybody here had any experience with the SX short scale basses? I'm seriously thinking of getting a short scale P and would like some feedback if anybody has any. Would be greatly appreciated. )-(

My wife has a fretless that she really likes, plays like an old P bass and even sounds nice. Not a bad deal for the $$

This happens with everything...for example, my DAW of choice, Reaper. Cheap, powerful, tiny...it's a great product. However, some fans of the program are a little too eager to tell people about it that they have to tear other stuff down, and blow it out of proportion. This sours people on it...plus the $50 licence cost versus the big guys like Pro Tools, Steinberg, etc. doesn't help the skepticism.

I get you friend. I actually like Reaper and I'm a fan of N-Tracks from Fasoft as well.
I don't bash on my Pro Tools loving friends at all, but I have tipped off friends to
the very nice and affordable alternatives out there when they
realize they can't pony up to buy the pricier software.

I had a short-scale Jazz and a short-scale P fretless (both have since been sold). They are very nice basses for the money. The strings are a bit floppy (but not so much that it's annoying), but that's the nature of the beast. They're great for the money and sound really good stock (a bit on the "bright" side, but all SX stock pups sound that way.) I had Fender Noiseless in my Jazz and the gave the bass an added punch it didn't have as stock. All in all, it's worth the money for an SX shortie. My only complaint (OK, two complaints) is that they are a bit on the heavy side and it's hard to find pickguards that are an exact fit (but drilling a few extra holes is no big deal).
