Tldr: How high gauge can a b string be? Currently using 148 and want higher tension.
Hello everyone. For a few years now I’ve mainly been playing 6 string basses and for about a year before I was playing a 5. For that time I’ve always had trouble finding a B string that doesn’t just sound like a floppy mess of fret buzz. Eventually that lead me to start using a Dingwall multi scale and then progressive tension strings. Ive also always preferred high tension strings and higher action. I used labella jamersons on my p bass for a long time before starting to get into extended range. So with all that in mind, what is too heavy for a low b string. Im currently using a 148 but id like to go higher. Im just worried about damaging the neck. Thanks.
