How long can a bass neck endure with no strings?

Feel no fret (huh!).

It's the worst of myths that still perpeturating the net. that:

a) you should not change all of the strings at once, but one at a time.

Not a total myth. Changing them one at a time makes it easier to tune up the new string by checking against the other strings.

b) you should take all off the strings when storing it for a long time.

Not a total myth. It makes sense for a classical nylon string guitar with no truss rod but not for any instrument with a truss rod. If you have a truss rod, leave the strings on and tuned to pitch. Or take the strings off and release the truss rod.

wipe your strings off each time your play ... over and under ... there's lots of string cleaner / lube type stuff out there ... washing your hands b4 playing helps also ...

when i change strings ... they might be off for a day or 2 , if i decide to deep clean/oil fret board , level frets if needed , polish frets ... and general micro cleaning of parts ... i don't worry about it .. !

i would really fix the truss nut problem .. !

i boiled some string once back in the 80's ... waste of time ... might sound better for a couple days .. !! you can get the gunk out , but you can Not make the small dents in the string , from making contact with the frets , go away ... !! those dents kill higher harmonic content ...

Hi I am trying to clean my bass strings by soaking them in denatured alcohol.

That means, I would have to leave my bass for about whole night without any strings on it.

Do you think it's ok to leave the bass without strings for a few hours?

P.S: I can't adjust the truss rod of the neck because the part where I insert allen wrench is quite worn out.

You could leave it overnight... But if it finds a partner in the night you will end up with 3 bass necks.That will solve the allen wrench problem.Sound like a winning situation to me.

Don't know what style bass guitar you have,in regards to truss rod adjustment? If it has the Fender type truss rod adjusting nut ,at the nut. If you can get the stripped nut off,you can replace the stripped nut,with a new one.

To the OP - this is such a silly question. I've never even heard of a bass with a neck, everyone knows the gills which are part of the head just connect directly to the body! There is no neck!

Don't get concerned unless you are going to leave it unstrung for several months ... even then most of the time nothing will happen ...

I used to do this regularly. I never had issues. Just make sure you get your tuning situation sorted out well before you have to get it out, unless you're sure it's a stable tuner.
