How low slung is your bass?

As a kid one of my favorite bands and Bass players was the band Chameleon, and on bass Dugan McNeill. I ended out going down to the local Radio shack when they actually still sold leather kits and riveted about another foot of leather onto the end of the strap... I've grown not only vertically... but significantly horizontally so I just let my gut protect my bass from the belt buckle rash...

This isn't me... it's Dugan... but that's about where I wore it when I was a kid.

I started off pretty high because I wanted to have my left hand wrist straight as possible. Then I noticed it was harder to reach the first position so I took some advice and set the strap while seated, so when I stand the position doesn't change.

I've pretty much stuck with that for the last 25 years.

When I started playing bass I had to have the strap set a little high to be able to comfortably play.

Just recently I've changed and now have my bass slung a couple of notches lower and it feels good.

You guys shifted around with your stance over time?

Fingerstyle here, I imagine can sling lower if you use a pick.
Belly button high, hanging to the right, 45 degrees up.

I've always had the strap pretty high since I'm not quite a large person. Lately I've been angling the neck in a more "classical" position while standing so that I'm not taking up as much space. It makes playing in first position a bit tiring but anything else is a breeze.

Only been playing about 4 years. Nothing has changed. 47" form straplock to straplock. Not " too high", not "too low" (for me). Any higher, my plucking/picking hand is bent too much. Any lower and my fretting hand gets too much strain. Low looks cool, but I'm 57 and I'm fine where I have it placed.
