2 Early 80s Ibanez Blazers, 1 red and 1 natural.
1987 Ibanez Roadstar II, cream white p bass w/ rosewood fretboard. My current work horse. The red blazer is my backup. (Blazer sounds better, but it's heavier and requires more effort to play.)
A newer Ibanez 6 string piccolo "hybrid" bass, tuned to E standard. 2 active pickups.
Sterling SUB 4 string. My "fake stingray". Pink w/ white pickguard, 1 humbucker. I had only heard about them and when I went to pick up a used markbass cabinet at guitar center I decided to try them out. Well this one in particular just played so well, and every note sounded solid. For $350 I just couldn't NOT buy it.
Early 70s red Epiphone et-280. This was my first ever bass back when I was strictly a guitar player. It was my uncle's bass and he gave it to me at some point in my teens. It was played randomly here and there at jam sessions, and when I turned 21 and started picking up paying bass gigs, it was all I had. Gigged with it for about 2 years before I picked up a black 1979 Rickenbacker 4001 (which would eventually be stolen). So yeah. My first 2 basses, and the only ones with flatwounds strings. Humble beginnings.
Ok, I lied, I have another bass with flatwounds. A 1960s "Kingston" Tiesco medium scale J bass w/ 1 staple pickup. Sounds good unplugged. Lots of thump. Somewhat disappointing plugged in. I use it mainly as a bedroom practice bass, unplugged. Maybe it just needs a better pickup.
ABC custom 5 string PJ bass. This bass was actually purchased off of fellow Talkbass member Bob Westbrook. All the info on this bass is floating around here somewhere. Some really great tones on thing, doesn't sit in all applications or rooms, however. But when it works it's awesome. This thing growls.
Peavy TL-5. Early 90s? A fine instrument and well made. Great basses for the price, usually very affordable. This one's equipped with an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp (I believe). My first 5 string. It's got them hummy single coils (notice I don't own any jazz basses). It sits seconds string to the ABC bass for that reason and I'm probably just gonna sell it cause I hardly ever use it.
And that's it (I think). I need to get some work done on the epiphone in order to get it back up to gigging spec. I've just been itching to get back into flatwounds again. I miss the thump. I miss that "juicy" electric, rubberiness of a slightly over driven flatwound bass. Mmmmmmm.
My passive Unity is still stock, Fender flats and a fantastic set up couresty of Rick at Moonshine Custom. The active Dyna Unity Series has SD Basslines.
