How many basses do you own? (Currently) Part 2

I’m sure this has been asked in the past but, just curious how many basses the average bassist owns. I usually hover around 5-6 max. Please let me know how many you own, and family pics are welcome. Thanks all and stay well!

2 basses.

Memphis P-bass copy - Probably late '70s or early '80s. All stock except the knobs. Swapped out the plastic cheapos for some Telecaster-style ones.

Cortez Ripper copy - Has the broader features/less-pointy horns like Gibson Rippers from '73-75, so I'm guessing it was made around then. Had to swap out a busted rotary switch and re-wire it with a 3-way switch. Upgraded with a Hipshot 2-point bridge.

All I need.
Always kicking around the idea of getting a fretless and/or a semi/full-hollowbody, but nothing's crossed my path that was a "must-have."

"Collection" isn't the word I'd use...

For instance, I wouldn't call the toolbox full of wrenches, pliers, and screwdrivers out in the garage a "tool collection" - they all have a purpose. I have a collection of Pez dispensers.

Anyhow, I have a 4-string Dingwall that's my main player - it goes where I go.

The other basses get played as often as I can, but admittedly are there mainly for nostalgia:

1. A modded 1983 Squier Precision - same model and era as my first bass ever
2. A PJ built by Del Langejans (who owned the guitar shop in my hometown)
3. A fretless P-Bass that my daughter and I sourced off Craiglist scrap parts and rebuilt together

I agree with you in that I wouldn't consider what I have as a "collection." A collection would infer that anyone would want one of my basses. All my basses are custom made by me from parts and specific to my needs. Same goes for my two uprights - they are worth way more to me than I could get in cash.

8 or 9, depending if we’re counting one that’s currently in parts.

G&L L-1000, G&L L-2000, G&L LB-100, G&L SB-2T, Gibson SG Bass, Gibson Les Paul Jr DC, Fender Jazz 24V, Squier Affinity P Bass and a fretless parts P that is currently dismantled as I need to plug and remount the neck.

Last inventory check counted 15 that I know of (list in profile). Three or four are in regular use, three or four more gets played on occasion, the rest are scattered around the house. Some are nostalgia, some are projects, and some are just wonderfully weird. And I did sell six basses and give away two in the last few years, and only bought, well, six. Or seven. Maybe eight. Who's counting?
