12 and they all play great. Flat bass strings on all of them helped make it happen. All short scales except one.

Tell me more about the orange one that looks like a Newport/Serek hybrid. Is it "poor man's Serek"?
Very good eye. Got the Epiphone Newport but it played horribly…but it was all mahogany and shaped like the Serek basses. So I decided to get a bass pickup from Serek and started to make a “cheap” Serek bass. It turned out very well and plays great.
Man, that is such a great idea! I might have to do the same. Looks like you've maybe also got a Serek made pickup in the Squier Mustang? I love the looks of that one tooVery good eye. Yes, again. The Squire Mustang is a fantastic bass but never liked the pickup so I installed a Serek. Plays great.
Serek has moved from Chicago to Brevard NC. I think he is happier now.
Yes…Squire Mustang is repainted. I didn’t like the white pick guard and wanted to replicate the stripes on my squire musicmaster. Thanks for the compliment

Oh, I don’t know. I definitely enjoy the bass lines on songs and listen to the bass parts on every song…but I have no real favorite players. I like Jeffrey Hammond who joined Jethro Tell right before the Aqualung album in 1971. When I hear Aqualung and the lead part where the bass player is running opposite the lead guitar player, that is fantastic.

You absolutely should. The downtown is cute, and there are lots of hiking trails around there. It's also not too far from Asheville. Plus Brevard School of Music!I live in Columbia SC…may visit him to see for myself.
Oh…my bad. I have often wondered which bass was my favorite. The basses were selected by how they played and all of them play great. However, I find myself playing Squire Musicmaster, Squire Mustang and the “cheap” Serek. Both of the Hofner’s and Epiphone EB-0 are my second most favorite. My Gretch Electronatic, Epiphone Allen Woody and Epiphone Rivoli are third most favorite. Sterling Stinray, Squire P-bass and Gibson Les Paul bass are 4th favorites. But they all play great though.I like that answer, but I was actually referring to your basses.
75 P and 52 P, two different interpretations of the P sound. I use the 75 for more subdued relaxed sounds and the 52 for a more aggressive take. It’s not necessary but definitely a nice luxury to have.

I used to have all my basses long scale. I thought that was the best sound. Then I tried a short scale bass and was really impressed by the way it stood out. I started to get rid of my long scales and they were replaced by short scales. I also like a single pickup. Simple and clean. The only long scale I have is a Squier Classic Vibe P-bass which was made in China and plays better than a Fender. I will never sell that bass. I understand the magic sound of P-bass so I keep it around.

Man our stories are nearly identical. I also switched to shorties recently and we have a similar lineup of basses. Ive got 5 short scales- 2 Squier Mustangs, 1 heavily modded Bronco, a bass that is part Musicmaster, part Mustang, part P Bass (my main axe), and a SBMM stingray shortie. I also have a full scale Jazz that mostly collects dust.Cool.
Nice. It does sound like we did arrive in the same way. I went through 36 basses to find the best, well-playing shorties. I had them on my wall and if I didn’t play it for 6 months, it was up for sale.

The revolving door has been well oiled over the last 6 weeks.
I bought a 76 Jazz in the classifieds here from a local guy. Sold 2 basses to get it.
6 days later I bought another 76 Jazz in Olympic White from the local Guitar Center.
I don't have a thing for 76, just worked out that way. I picked up 14 gigs over the summer to pay it off.
Then 10 days ago I got a bug up my butt to get a good 5 string.
The US Lakland in Shoreline Gold showed up today.
For the first time in 4 years, I might be content, or as close as I've been in a while
