I currently own four, three are up for sale in Classifieds | Basses right now.

The one keeper is my sole 5-string Stingray5.
The P, J-fretless, and L1500 are 4-bangers, and all up for sale now. Mint, BTW.

The replacement will be a 5-string P/J fretless.
I have too many fine basses that are not getting played.

1. 1972 Fender Precision - my baby!
- 2nd owner; bought in 1985; all original parts; maple neck, don't know what kind of body...never really cared to find out
2. 1980 MIJ Fender Jazz bass - the Mistress
- maple neck, rosewood board; early '80's EMG's Hipshot D tuner; Bad Ass I bridge; "inherited" it from my friend who is the original owner and did all of the mods to it
3. 1986 Charvel 3B - all original except has EMG's since the original pups just died

right now, GASSING for a 60's era P or J, or an early '70's Ric

i have 5 basses and there all diffrent. diffrent to play and diffrent sounds.
I have a Harper custom 5 string fretless with roto 88s.
it gives me that deep double bass fretless sound.
i have a L.E. MARQUIS. N.Y. viola beatles bass. also with roto 88s
it give me that nice woody beatles hofner sound.
i have a Epiphone EB3 with roto 66s.
it gives me that "Cream-Jack Bruce" growl type sound.
I have a Yamaha RBX 170 with roto 66s.
it is my workhorse bass, with a P&J type pickup it let me get most tones I want and it good to play. most under-rated bass.
my newest bass is a Rockinbetter 4003 with roto 66s.
it does have that ric sound and the thru neck lets the strings sing.
all plyed through a line6 lowdown 150 amp, and I use pod farm for any effects or amp/cabs sounds I need.

Currently 3, but I've owned a LOT more than that. I'll listen in order of purchase & highlight the ones I currently own.

1. 1996 Fender MIM Precision Bass - My first bass. Loved the sound, still love playing it. Currently in pieces being revitalized after some bad routing work.
2. 2003? Cort C5 - First venture into 5 strings and was not disappointed. Sold a few years later due to lack of use.
3. 2002? G&L Tribute L-2000 - Best 4 string bass I've ever owned. Shouldn't have sold it.
4. 2006 Epiphone Thunderbird bolt-on - Strung this BEAD, hated it & then sold it.
5. 2011 Ibanez SR305 - Bought & returned, as I didn't like the tone through my amp.
6. 2011 Cort T35 - Same as above
7. 2006 Ibanez BTB 6-string - Love the tone & play. Too heavy
8. 2012 Fender Am Spec P-bass - Played like butter but didn't have a low B. Returned to get another bass.
9. 2006 Spector Rebop 5DLX - My go to bass. Love it!
10. 2012 Fender Active Deluxe Jazz Bass V - I've wanted a jazz for awhile, and I liked how this one played & looked. Going to put an active/passive switch in.

I've been considering picking up a 5 string again. I've had very positive experience with both Carvin and SBMM, so far, so I'd consider either the SB5000 or the Ray35. Not in the budget right now, but it's up for consideration. I do enough different recording projects that I can just barely justify having everything but the 8 string at the moment.
