How many basses this Year?

3 for me too, but trades and recovery really. Very little outright purchases. Got my 1970 Rick 4001 back after it was sold to a dear friend almost 20 years ago. Traded a mint Tobias for that. Got a $179 used Squier VM Fretless that I modded to perfection, and just yesterday got a Sterling by MM SB34CA for an insanely low $299 used at GC. All in all, A GOOD YEr for gear acquisition, and I think I will not have any GAS for quite a while (famous last words)
the new baby...

My primary gig is now an acoustic trio, and I went on a bit of a buying binge with acoustic or acoustic-ish basses this year.

In the order they were aquired:

Godin A5 Fretless - (Likely available for sale or trade)
Rick Turner Renaissance RB-5 Fretless
Warwick Alien 5
Rick Turner Renaissance RB-5 (Just picked this one up YESTERDAY!)

Update: just picked up a 2008 Fender Jazz MIA this weekend! Beautiful bass, but not something I'll gig with (I play 5s). I got it in a "package deal"....look for it in the TB classifieds in the next few days.

In a perfect world, I want to buy a Gold Tone fretless Microbass and another five string. It would be great to buy a full sized fretless too. I am very close to some major debt reduction goals, however, and if I waste a thousand here or there, I could derail some hard work and long term plans. If a good deal comes my way, I will probably get something. I know to never say never.

FIVE basses in 2013.

Breedlove Passport 4-string fretted acoustic bass to play in my acoustic rock trio last spring.

Ibanez SR300 solid body in sparkle green to have around the man cave for recording.

Then last month I decided that I wanted to be a "real" bass player, so I tried-out all the couple dozen basses in my local shop and took home a Sterling Ray 35 in trans white. Loved it so much that I added a mint green Ray 34 CA FL fretless a week or so after (cause I've always wanted one). And finally last night I snatched up a nice used Ray 34 fretted in honeyburst on ebay for $420 shipped. I'm a total gear slut and quite popular in my local music shops. :D

I started this year off with close to 30 basses. Over the course of the year I've managed to whittle that number down to seven:

Mike Lull M5V
Lakland Skyline 55-64
Lakland Skyline 55-60
Two Peavey Millennium 5s
Millennium 4 (For sale)
ESP LTD B205SM Fretless

I'm content with my current setup. I feel I have all my bases covered musically with these.

Zero basses bought this year and I'm proud of myself. I think maybe because last year I bought my jazz and I've just fallen in love with it. Nothing else did me like it and I don't want to play anything else.

But I did build my first bass this year.

I started out the year with a Spector NS-20004 and a Carvin LB-75. I traded the Carvin for a Epi Thunderbird Pro IV. I was never happy with the t-bird. I just couldn't handle the neck dive so I traded it and a Hartke TP410 cab for a Fender JP-90 and I couldn't be happier with that bass. I also bought a Bellafina 3/4 Upright bass.

This year I am planning on fixing up my first bass I got about 16 years ago. It's an Epi p-bass copy that I am going to turn into a Frankenbass. I am still debating on selling my Spector to get a Fender Cabronita P-bass.

Well this was a sale off year for me. I started the year with:

Warwick Redwood Streamer
Warwick Infinity SN5
Fender Aerodyne
Fender Aerodyne frettless
Warwick FNA Corvette Jazzman

I sold them all except for the Warwick FNA.

I bought a

Traverles bass
Roland Cube amp
And I just ordered a New G&L MJ-4 that will arrive mid January.

I feel like I'm at a AA meeting and I'm the only without a problem ...

After 7 years with the same 3 basses I bought a new one. A Carvin Icon6 fretless and I'm probably good for another 7 years. I also bought a Boss RC-3. Since I changed my laptop I have to rebuy all my too old software to record or program music. I don't know what I'll do about that.

Already posted, but the year's not over, and neither is my GAS! In order this time:

1 - Fender MP Telecaster bass
2 - Fender Power Jazz Special
3 - MM Cutlass 1
4 - Epiphone T Bird Pro IV natural oil

The T Bird is just a few days old, and I have 30 days in which I can return it and get full value. I'm still thinking about it, so if anyone has any thoughts, I'd love to hear em. I'm considering taking it back for a squier jazz, or a squier CV tele (6er). For the jazz, I'd either go for one of the VM soft maple bodies (although they may not have em), or the CV jazz, though i'm afraid it may be a sound I can already get from my power jazz special, being that they are both rosewood on basswood bodies.

Don't wanna derail this thread tho, keep posting those new acquisitions (still have a few hours in most parts of the world)!
