How many frets does your bass have?

None, but let's call it 20 (fretless P); 20 (P and J); 21 (G&L); 24 (DiPinto Belvedere). I never cared about this until I subbed in a buddy's band whose usual bassist played a Schecter. One of their best tunes had an upper register bass line requiring the high E, so I just couldn't play it on my Fenders. Glad I had the DiPinto. (I didn't have the G&L yet.)

I really wish Fender would bump the passive American Series up to 21 frets. The note "E" comes in handy once in a while, and the vintage spec folks will buy the reissues anyway.

20 on my P and fortcomming J, 24 on my fretted and fretless 6 (well, 2 octaves on the fretless).

I am entirely indifferent.

Most of them now are 21 fret one 20 fret and a 24 fret on the way !

No need for more frets, IMHO, but it actually looks good when a bass has two complete octaves. Some sort of symmetry or something.

20 on my Mike Dirnt P-Bass and Epi Thunderbird, 24 on my Warwick RockBass Corvette (which is tuned BEAD so the additional frets are pointless ) and 22 on my Italia Modulo.

2 of my basses have a 20 fret neck and my peavey's got a 22. I can literally think of one song I know that requires a 22nd fret on bass. And it's really optional even then.

my main basses are Ibanez Roadstars, Blazers, and a Modulus Bassstar. All of them have 21. I'm all about that highest E. I have a couple of Fenders that I love, but I can't do some of stuff on them very easily. too hard to get that 20th bent up fast enough.
