How many gigs did you play in 2016?

It's that time of year again, I figure it would be good to do this again... as we did in this thread a year ago... How many gigs did you play in 2015?

How many gigs did you play in 2016? You can include any that you still have coming up in December. NYE is technically December 31 so you can count that. Let's assume for these purposes we're talking paying gigs only, even if it was for small money. You can include pay-to-play and such if you collected money, even if you had a net loss, or if for some reason your band got paid but not you personally.

It was a quiet year for me after being pretty busy the prior year. I had a cover band I tried to launch that played maybe half a dozen gigs and folded. I had a few sub gigs as well, and getting new projects launched that aren't really out there yet. I don't have an exact count but it's only about a dozen. I did play in church more Sundays than not, but those aren't paid. I was on organizing committees for a couple of fundraisers where I got money for the band but didn't take a cut myself (would have just donated it back into the event anyway).

Was not a good year for me. And not just band wise. SMDH! I chose 1-12.

Bad year ... I've posted about the club where we played 2x month having troubles and they closed in August. But still managed 42 gigs for the year. Previous years were busier. 2017 is shaping up nicely, though. Already a dozen gigs on the books, and the band that played at the club is working something with another social club just 15 minutes away from home, that might be good for at least 24 gigs (and more if we land a few gigs from people who attend). I should say that the band doesn't play bars ... mostly social clubs, private events, and such. It's good to have multiple projects ... one will we be in demand ... somewhere.

25 on the nose for my main band and a half dozen pickup gigs on pedal steel which was slightly down from 2015. Just about the right balance for me as I don't care to spend every weekend in a bar playing, especially in the summer!

Would be nice to book some two night stands in 2017. We're already at 21 bookings for next year!

I play upright bluegrass bass gigs, electric (5 string, 4 string and fretless) at rock gigs, a few flatpicked bluegrass guitar gigs and a lot of bluegrass mandolin gigs. This year was relatively light with just 55 gigs.

I am in the 20 or so category. 6 in December alone, but less in the summer than normal. I had a good year though. Any more than this and my family doesn't recognize me when I come home.

Not sure, given the OP's definition. All my community big band gigs are benefits on some level, and I've never asked which ones pay some cash to the band fund. Some of that is a slush fund for next week's year end band dinner, which probably isn't all that cheap given at least 17 members with +1s. Anyhow, I had 9 gigs with that band and nada from any of my usual sub hits, due to health problems. My open mike backup band thing evaporated due to ASCAP issues too. All in all, not so bueno.

OTOH, the big band thing is the most fun I've had playing out in years. I won't be the rookie next year either, or at least not the totally green one.

I played a whopping 0 gigs. I bought a new rig and thought about joining a band, but that never ended up happening. My music for the year was all studio work. Not as much as I'd like, but 2017 is looking promising.

2015: approached 200 shows after 3.5 years of similar workload. 2016: zero shows! Burned out on band leader and tunes, quitting the steady gig. Haven't looked back. Am now enjoying wood shedding, composing, recording, playing purely on my own terms, and new-found time with family. Look to keep 2016 routine in place for 2017 as well. For me right now: no gig is the best gig.

Sigh, 2. But 2 more on the books for later this month! Was searching for a new project the first half of the year, this new one is starting to take off finally. All originals, so I'll likely never breakout of that 1-12 bracket,but who knows?

In 2016 I played twice more then in 2015!

It sounds like a great progress but actually I started playing bass the end of 2015, joined my first band in December (thanks to all the TB members who told me to not hesitate and go for it) and played my first gig with them in less than three weeks right before the New Year. It was a good fast start but in 2016 we played only two gigs in 9 months and eventually broke up. I also had two more projects that even didn't have any gigs at all. Wasted a lot of time on dealing with flakes but learned a lot about being in band during this year. Now I'm in a new band that I joined just a couple weeks ago. It looks better than what I had before so I'm full of hopes for 2017.

Finally got the right players together and started a new band in 2016. One of our guitar guys had shoulder surgery, so that put us on the back burner for a while. We are all doing this for fun and relaxation so our number fell into the 1-12 category. We are hoping for a better 2017 and already have a September gig booked!!!

Our Dec 23rd gig will be Midnight Radio's 30th gig this year. And we've only (almost) broken up 3 times during that time!
