Wow, just wow. $100? Dedication or stupidity? Oh, it was on drums... Definitely stupidity...
(Couldn't resist... no real offence to drummers).
It was more from boredom.
And it paid Austin rates, which I was used to until I took my MM degree and walked away from the whole music biz.

For an unknown, regardless of their chops and professionalism, it can range from pay-to-play to $100/night. I played lots of $50 nights, riding in someone's van up to 100 miles. It can be that or stay home, or pay a cover to be seen somewhere. I finally turned my attention to other interests. Just now coming back to music 5 years later and 1,500 miles away.
I'll point out that I was playing in Country bands. Rock bands on 6th Street can come out with $50......for the whole band. Some people are doing okay, though; it's just that drummers are add-ons in that town, picked up for a night or short tour.
Around 30 for me max this year. Possibly a few less.
We are in the process of ramping up a new singer, I have a 2 year old daughter and I travel quite a bit with work. The band has agreed to accommodate my request to do only 2-3 gigs a month and nothing less than $100 a man (bar owners are getting cheap in my area).
We will do more in the summer, but I can't see us doing over 40 next year. Perfect for me.

Yeah, she already kicked me to the curb. So it goes - there's a line of the waiting behind. Turns out that being a 53 year old man with a good job and in good shape is rather rare... So yea me!

About 20, and at this point, the total isn't going up much. There will probably be fewer in 2015, but who knows. I didn't think there would be that many in 2014. 20 is plenty for me. Any more and I would become unreliable due to my work schedule.

About 5 locally with a regular band of which I'm the only member with no life so we are limited by availability of the other members. I also did a few with a pop band pretending to be country pickers, but it got so mind numbing I started making excuses to not take them up on their offers to go full time when they started asking why I wouldn't get a 5 string, and they found a replacement. I wish them all the best.
For the last several months I've been driving about 3 hours one way every weekend because I've found me some kindred spirits who are as seriously into kicking some s&!t as I am. We've got three former road dogs (steel, guitar, and drums) who got bored in retirement, a utility man for vocal harmony, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and acoustic guitar as needed, a young guitar slinger with amazing chops. Not a lot of product knowledge but he's a very quick study, a seriously good singer/songwriter/front guy/bandleader, and the world's oldest amateur beer salesman pretending to be a bass player.
We've landed a house job for friday and saturday with the occasional thursday or sunday so that added another 34 so far. They love us at this place so barring any implosion or other issues we will work the rest of the weekends and their NYE party this year and the same job will carry us into 2015. We've been approached by a booker who wants to put us on some outdoor shows come warm weather, other venues have been sniffing around, and we are getting calls to do private parties. Since the venue for our house job is available for private events, we refer those calls to the club owner, but going to them is not a deal breaker so it could get really busy this coming year.

The town is putting on an outdoor show, and now they have a free band so we got the boot.
This just means that if they want us for other things later, the price has just gone way up.

I didn't really relish the thoughts of playing outdoors for 2 hours on NYE anyway.
