How many only have one bass?

Personally, it's just a hobby for me now, I'm 43 with kids and may play around a bit, it's strictly for fun with the little spare time can muster. I have a MIA P that I love the sound and playability of and don't feel the need anything else.

That's not because I'm a Fender lover by any stretch, my first choice would have been my old 4001, but it's because I found one that fits and I'm happy. I probably would have been happy with a EBMM if I came across one first.

This is not to cast any dispersions on people with multiples, my situation is driven by the fact that I don't have a lot of spare room or money nor do I need anything more in my life to watch over.

So, besides you pros out there (or anyone who needs backups, etc.) how many only have one bass and are happy?

I have one bass, but obviously I am just starting out playing/learning bass, so maybe I don't count?

Don't see much reason to own more than two though. One main and one backup.

Oh and maybe a third one small scale, when size/weight matters...
And a fourth one fretless when I'll want to learn that!

just kidding... i am trying to get down to one. i have a mustang for sale. and i recently bought a spector to replace my hamer. when i've had enough time with the spector to make sure i'm happy with it, i'll be getting rid of the hamer. the only thing that will change that is if i decide to turn the hamer into a fretless.

good call on getting what you need and being content. it's refreshing... i hope to be there some day

I have one fender jazz is all. its great and all, but i would really dig a 6 string jazz, and a fretless bass too, but im just too poor.

I play 150+ gigs a year (as my living) and use only one bass. I never carry a back up along and have never needed one (probably just jinxed myself). I do have another bass that sits in my closet but never gets played.

I play many different genre's but my Sadowsky JJ covers it all from old school to modern. It's the only bass I've owned that does everything extremely well.

I only have one bass. This may go up to 2 after Ahristmas. i have my eye very firmly set on a Squier VM 70's jazz NT. Currently plucking on a Westfield VBS5a 5 string. (although i have contemplated selling it)

I'm also 43 ... I have my original bass...1983 Ibanez Roadstar II and it seems to work fine. I venture to the local shop and most bass guitars that impress me are too expensive, triple what I paid for mine originally. I have bought cheap bass guitars that I soon sell and go back to my old bass...is fun to try stuff but most of the time you lose money. I have a couple of cheap necks leaning against my wall that I thought might be fun for projects but if I spend the money on a quality body I would buy a quality neck and parts so the SX bass buying thing does not appeal to me. I would love to own a Rickenbacker or a Gretsch someday to go beside my dream antique motorcycle and my dream vintage beetle.

I did for the longest time. I really do find this thread refreshing because I think a lot of us get distracted and caught up in unnecessary gear lust. Being content is real freedom to me.

I've got more than one right now because I'm a part time sessionista, but for me, I could get away with 95% of my gigs with my Nordy 5 string. It really does everything you need. I like how Neil Stubenhaus (one of the most in-demand players ever) often just brings his main 5 string to his sessions and uses it 90% of the time. Same for Leland Sklar.

I have one bass. GAS comes and goes though... it would be a lot less if I had gotten a 5 stringer straight away... but I'm stuck with one for at least two years to come (made a pact with myself not to buy a new bass before I'm playing 5 years) and I'm gonna graduate in June. I want to see if I'm still playing when I'm working!

Right now i sold all my other basses, i only own my new Maruszyzk now.
For so many years ive been looking for the perfect bass, i dont like playing many different basses. I rather find a sound i like and stick with it.

I have one right now. hopefully my goals can be achieved with 3 basses. a Jazz a P, and a Stingray. I have a diamond-in-the-rough 07 MIM Jazz bass, that really just needs new strings and a pro setup right now, but hopefully the EBMM will follow in the next year or 2. or 3, considering im jobless

I have only one bass, a 2006 Highway One Jazz Bass. I didn't even buy it myself. I had played guitar for years and our worship team at church needed a bass player so I volunteered. My wife picked up the bass at a local music shop and brought it home. I have played it every day since then and love it. Since then I've tried a few others and haven't found anything that I like better.
