In a sense I envy the whole having one bass thing. You know, to have that one style or voice or something. But I do play a LOT of styles of music which require that old-school sound along with that ultra-modern sound. But I admire those with a signature sound or those legends who also have that singular voice.
I think of someone like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jamerson, Jaco, Geddy, Manring, etc. Now I know those guys owned more than one instrument, but they're known for their particular sound.
On the other hand, I liked Me'shell Ndegeocello's idea, too. She likes to have a lot of colors at her disposal and rather have a unique and singular "feel", no matter the color of the instrument. Of course, all those other cats have that unique feel, too.
Still, there really is something special to me about guys like the OP.
Let's keep looking at the big picture of music, whatever the goals are!
