Not to be rude but learning songs sitting around by yourself? Is that really fun?
For me that would be a waste of time.
This seems like an odd comment. Don't you enjoy playing your bass?

So, they sent me a list of 17 songs they've been working on.

lol, keep working at it man. One day you will be able to do it as well. It's not that tough with practice.I have made it clear that I don't believe any of you guys that claim you learn 50 new songs in 2 weeks.
Man, I bet they are beating down your door, hehe. You would never audition me.
When I audition, I tell the band to send me 3 files. I want 3 files of the songs the way they perform them.
I like the do a great job on 3 songs instead of a marginal job on several songs.
I need to know how many people your auditioning. I only audition last.
Take it or leave it, you need me more than I need you.
I think you made that clear when you said you won't (can't) learn more than 3 songs at a time. Not to be rude but learning songs sitting around by yourself? Is that really fun? For me that would be a waste of time.

...I know one band in the area where the audition IS the gig...
JohnMCA72 said:Sure, it's fun. While I may never actually play a given song with a band, there's probably something worthwhile to be learned in any song. I might discover something interesting that I can use in some other context. Plus, I just plain like learning stuff! Then again, I just never know when I might find myself in a situation where a song gets called that wouldn't be in my repertoire if I hadn't already learned it just for the exercise at some point. It's cool to be able to say, "Sure, I can play that!" when something unexpected gets called.
Then, there's the matter of versatility. I like to be able to play stuff that's outside the genre(s) where I normally work. Since I don't play those with bands, the only real choice is to play it by myself (or not play it at all).
The thing is, I actually like playing. I like it so much that, even when I've learned all I really "need", I still want to learn more.

Practice, practice. You can do it too.My position remains the same on learning 50 new songs.

I can't maintain my position in my bands or your position in your band? Not clear what you mean. Either way Blue, man your posts are the bestThat's how I won my last audition. And I am maintaining my position, you can't.
Practice, practice. You can do it too.
There's like 3 whole chords in them. And I am maintaining my position, you can't. Learn 50 new songs in 2 weeks.

Can't learn 50 songs in TWO weeks? Maybe you can't said:50 new song, gig ready, no cheat sheets, no 12 bar progressions, absolutely not.
I can't and you can't.
I am sure your definition of knowing a song and mine are. different.
The only way I will concede is if you don't work and have 2 weeks open to do nothing except practice.
