How many TBers play Ukulele?

I was bored in music history class one day (our project was to write a song and I was finished with mine) so I grabbed the teachers uke and learned a few chords. Enough to play somewhere over the rainbow! It only took me 15 minutes to learn with no previous knowledge of the uke, such an easy instrument to pick up. I may have to pick up a baritone sometime.

I've played, and still play, one or two.

The photo below was taken three years ago, when my UAS was at its zenith. I've sold a few since then, and am now attempting not to apply the same buying philosophy to basses. :help: For one thing, I don't have the room!

The first uke I ever bought, a Brüko soprano, is there (2nd row, 6th from the left), and soprano is still my favourite size to play.

If you want to hear how that 'kooky' uke hanging on the right-hand wall sounds, here it is:

I just got myself a Lanikai soprano uke yesterday. It's sounds great but the E string kinda goes flat, and (ironically enough) the E flat on the C string buzzes. I'll probably go back to the store to have that fixed or something, but overall it sounds great: happy, just like your friendly regular uke.

I wanna focus on the uke as my third instrument (besides obviously the bass, and I'm trying my best with my drumming). It's not a guitar, so I have to learn a new tuning plus I like to learn easier chord fingerings. I love the string spacing (similar to a Jazz Bass) and the fact that it has only four strings (just like our beloved standard bass). Sounds like a great instrument to start with, and it might come in handy for experimental songs.

One of my guitar players had one sitting around his house so during down time I would strum on it. I would not say I play it, however it's fun for me to try to. I think it could be fun to learn.

Ukeleles have a strange aura and effect on people. I don't know why
when people pick up the ukelele it causes a sudden change in their name.
When referencing folks that play the instruments it's always,
"Have you seen Ukelele Joe?" "Hung out with Ukelele Bob last night.." etc.
My brother, who has always been Steve, started playing the Uke and now
everyone refers to him as Ukelele Steve.
No other instrument seems to have that immediate effect.

Cheers!
Ukelele Dave
