Did you change to a thicker "E" string or is your top string just an octave higher than the rest?

I picked up a uke in February. Since then, I've done two musical runs with it as well as now double on uke and string bass in my folk band. It is a pretty easy instrument to pick up if you have any string experience, and as many have said, a lot of fun to play.
I also have five ukes now; two tenors, a reso-uke, a concert and a custom built one I just got Wednesday for my birthday. It amazed me how expensive ukes can get when you're having one built.

Huh? You know that standard uke tuning (gcea) is the same as the four highest guitar strings so guitar shape work except they are in a different key? Eg the guitar d shape is g on a uke.
Or do I now have tooth marks on my backside where the troll bit me?

For no apparent reason, I've been flirting with the idea of getting a relatively cheap uke (a nice koa one for say $100-200_ and learn how to play it. It looks like loads of fun, and it is tiny, so I could take it everywhere, and the sound is awesome! I might also want to try an uke bass too. Just the thought of having such a tiny instrument besides the basses makes me giggle, and I'm naturally attracted to contrasts in colour, shape and sound.
Yet, I would prefer to spend that time learning how to drum or sing. Or sight-reading music.

Very, very true. The sound of the uke irradiates pure happiness. No more, no less. Heck, even the most somber scale available to mankind sounds dolly-jolly on an uke!

I do! I just got new strings, in fact! I only have a soprano but I'd love to have a tenor or maybe even one of those Kala Uke basses! I'm not all for the $400 price tag though :/

I have a Lanikai ukulele that I play once in a while. Me and my friends went to the beach yesterday and they brought their acoustic guitars and they laughed at me for bringing my little ukulele lol. They're a lot of fun to play!
Here is just a clip we did for fun with Bill Tapia (Look him up)...nothing special, and Bill was 103 when we did this....
Ukelele was Uncle Bill's speciality....he was known as the "duke of uke"....that's me on the bass, of course.

i do! (check out my username) and i reccomend a tenor if you go on and want to get a better instrument. (Fender Nohea is a great tenor at a low price)
I do. I recently inherited a Gibson uke and I'm trying to find out what year it was made.
Here's a picture of the serial number. I also found this link but none of the serial numbers seem to be a match. My serial number looks like 6D45 34.
