How many TOTAL basses have you owned?

33. I own 7 of them right now. One of those is the first bass I ever owned. Another 5 were stolen. I've also been playing bass for 32 years.

I got my first bass in 2000, added a second in 2002... sold one and gave away the other, along with most of my other belongings, in 2008 when I moved to Vietnam to volunteer with a development program... moved back to Canada in 2016, and eventually took the bass up again in 2018. Since then I've bought and sold a few more basses, and the fretless Warmoth bass I recently completed is #10 in total.

I spent the better part of 20 years buying and selling basses (once I got a real job and also saved up enough band money). I typically hang on to ~25 or so at any given time, but I've sent sold well over 100. I don't buy to flip, I buy to try in the quest to find the perfect basses for me. Also, I buy a little due to nostalgia

Sixteen total, and five currently. I got my first in 1983, but played only sporadically until 1993, and then didn't play at all until 2002. I owned two, just one at a time, during those 19-20 years. One of those was my only bass when I resumed playing in 2002, so 15 of the 16 have been in the last 19 years.

I stopped counting at 28 off the top of my head through my life (Before I edited this I posted 21 LoL). Probably missed a couple or more, but that hit on most of them, possibly all of them although probably there's one or two I just am forgetting.

This includes those I owned for a short time. This does not include those I rented, even if I rented them for a while.

Man I already upped the number as I forgot my EBMMs. Ok, well fortunately I chose the 21-30 group, and I'm pretty sure that will remain my value, even if I go up a couple more that I forgot.

Edit: I'll keep updating this as long as TB will let me... I keep remembering more of them. But I mean, at this rate I'll be into the 31+ group before I know it LoL

Truth, ha ha........I had two basses for many years before Talkbass, have since gone over 100. Recognizing basses at garage sales or local postings, the nuances of each bass and their relative values, too much information can be a bad (or in other perspective, good) thing.

Looks like 11, almost forgot that Ibanez I had back in the 90s when I played for like 2 months and went back guitar full time. Interestingly, I played guitar for most of my life and I’ve only had 6 of them ever.

Lifetime count 16 (since 1981). Total at present: 9. Potential chopping block: 3. Really didn’t start buying them until 2007. That’s what a good paying job does to you.

Problem is not the basses; it’s the other stuff. The full vintage Slingerland kit. The acoustics. The lap steel. The mandolin. The four violins. You get the idea.
