How much do looks really matter?

That must be hard, almost baffling, to accept that there are indeed people who really dont give a sh*t about this crap.

Exactly I grew up poor as dirt. I remember mayonasise sandwiches, hot dogs for breakfast, lunch, dinner clothes and fashion didn’t mean anything to us. We were taught substance over style. Hell my first bass was a FOXXE bass which my dad had to glue the neck back together because it was a throw away from a local music store called Bronens Music...trust me some people really don’t care.

So my choice of a pic denotes what tribe I’m in?LMAO so “white supremacist” trump rallies ??

1. People choose their profile pics to indicate how they see themselves. Is that so hard?
2. I did not say you're into MAGA, I just said that if you were, that's one place I wouldn't go. But other than that, I probably would. I have wide-ranging musical and cultural tastes, and I very much doubt that whatever you're into is off-limits for me.

Oh I accept that there are people who don't care. What I don't accept is a blanket statement that it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter to you, maybe, possibly. It doesn't matter to your audience. Maybe, possibly. But to say that it doesn't matter in the large, for music performance as a whole? That's wrong, for the same reason that it's wrong to say that clothing and behaviour choices don't matter in society as a whole.

I'm amazed this is a controversial statement. It's not an opinion, people have measured this stuff. if you want to believe you're an exception, fine. But humans in the aggregate care.

So back to my profile pic..lol well here my profile pic is of a guy who at the age of 40 for the first time in his life owned an instrument which wasn’t used and was bought new. I saved for two years to even think of buying a high quality instrument. That pic was the day it arrived to me in the Middle East because my wife surprised me as an Xmas gift. So what you see is elation, joy, pride and love.

Like it or not, one's appearance says a lot, even if you don't care about it. Social status, tastes, whatever, it always speaks volumes. There are very few people who only listen to music without evaluating all, and I mean ALL, the accoutrements that come along with it. If Dream Theater wore khakis and polo shirts, would they be as well regarded? The same for the NY Philharmonic; if they wore T-shirts and cargo pants, ie looked like a "dad band" who was doing the lawn, would people like them as much?

well put in this way I can agree more but that's slightly different from what you said before
Anyways not only many bands I listen to dress just normal like if they were your neighbour or co-worker. For many bands I listen to, look is so unimportant I can't even remember their face. But their music, that I remember very well.

That's awesome, really awesome. And if you were in the Middle East in service to your country, thank you for your service. I hope that bass has brought you much happiness since.

This morning, a Yahoo article said this about Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson.
"The duo performed their Invalid Link Removed(??? - WUTP) new collaborative single, “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart”.

I have found NOTHING interesting in that song!
It reminded me some kind of Western Spaghetti music.
Is there anything else of that "stellar" that I'm missing?
What do you think?

I checked it out simply because I like a lot of the spaghetti western music (Ennio Morricone is one of my fav composers).

As far as this duet, there was nothing there to hold my attention other than the obvious. Just my opinion.

I most definitely did not. I'm sorry if I did not make that clear in the post, and the follow-up explaining that I did not. I'm responsible for my own communication, and it seems that I did not choose my words carefully.

Look dude whatever floats your boat you made broad assumptions about me, without engaging me in meaningful dialogue. You leave no room for any other kind of thought or that possibly some people just don’t care. I never said this was for EVERYONE but that SOME people...don’t really care. And at every turn you’ve dealt in absolutism that your opinion is the right one and everyone else cant be right in any way. So peace out. Have a great low end day.:bassist:

I don’t mind Miley Cyrus, I think she does perform some decent material. But, this song sounds like a really bad Lana Del Rey song. Anyway, here is Miley Cyrus doing well.

I think this song is a pile of dookie trying to dress up like a spaghetti western. Also, why is this Marc Ronson character given the time of day? There’s certainly better guitar players they could have hired to awkwardly stand there. But, they both do drive home the point of aesthetics that match the music and distinguish the performers.

It beats me how someone can try so blatantly and obviously to market themselves as a sex symbol, and yet fail so completely. And no I don't mean that Ronson guy :)
