How much to replace your board?

My bass board is the most expensive. Each pedal is $150-$200.

For guitar, the most expensive is $100.

It’s comical - the markup on bass specific gear.

It is sobering to realize that I have more $$ in pedals than in basses or in amps. Of course some of my pedals I got for less and now because of circumstances they would be very expensive to replace.

My small board cost €1050, with cables, power, and homemade board.

Bigger one that I now use more for guitar than for bass was more expensive...€1150 (with Woodoo Lab 4x4 and cables), but most of the pedals was bought used. Just checked the prices of new components, and today it would cost €1550.

Cali76 CB, Darkglass B7K and DFZ, Foxrox Octron3 and MXR Phase 95 are "frequent flyers" of my mini board.

I think it’s key to differentiate between full retail price and what it would cost second hand (my preferred way to go)

And of course the hidden cost: time to locate or commission the pedals!

Overall I would say about €1500
But the time and pain= unmeasurable
Funny thing is I never planned to spend this and I’ve never spend so much on a bass!

It's split across two boards, though.

When you factor in my home use/expermentation board, we might scratch at a five figure price tag.

None of my effect racks are more than 10" deep or weigh more than 20lbs., and I don't give a rip about cabinet overhang so I don't need to buy a big cab just for "the look.' And my primary amp is already rack mounted, so for me the biggest downside is how expensive decent rack enclosures for my DIY builds are. But in your case it would be a pretty substantial format jump, I reckon. The last time I did rack effects in earnest this wasn't even the whole schmear:

Considering that most things were purchased used, and 4 of the pedals (3 overdrives and the delay) were ones that I built?
My actual spend was probably more like $700...

But here are the retail replacement prices:

Some nice pedals in that list, especially the SushiBox stuff! Mums the word on telling anyone. I always assume what happens on TB stays on TB!

For the majority of the year it was just a Buffer+, Tuner, Bass Comp, JHS Double Barrel, and Pork & Pickle. Then I found out about SushiBox and added a Finally to the end of the chain and that was transformative to my core tone. I had also found the compact pedalboard threads and @el murdoque's Dirt Bender Journal and all of those have been thought provoking, problematic for the wallet, but a very fun journey!

Prior to this I'd been spending a lot of time over in the Luthier's Corner, and I have a lot of dreams and plans for building more basses. However I can't very well keep an eye on the baby from the workshop so for better or worse I end up spending more time reading about pedals and cruising classifieds.

As long as you understand that the tone is in the pedals fingers and tone hunting is a hobby in itself, it's a very nice way to waste time and money ;-)

I would never admit that, but I've played gigs with a Nano that held a Sansamp PBDDI, a Strymon BlueSky and a tuner and musicians praised me for the tone I got.

Oh of course - I hadn't played for a number of years, but after moving back to be closer to family I met up with some old buds and started playing again. The only recording I have is with a bass I assembled playing through my old gear (SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe > DBX rack compressor > DI out of Eden WT550), and it sounds really great!

I started chafing against switching between presets on the BDD and not having the different settings feel cohesive enough (jumps in gain, large shifts in EQ settings, etc). Having all my different OD flavors separate from the EQ and being able to layer them in to allowed me create the different textures I wanted.

Too much. I started adding my bigger board up and was over $500 before I even added a pedal (Temple Audio Duo 17, AC mod, side I/O panel with custom cables, Cioks DC7 and all the patch cables). Then I stopped tabulating.

I have gone through multiple revisions of pedals and boards since I waded in to effects 8 years or so ago. Some of the pedals were quite hard to get at the time, but even though they are more available now the are still pricey. Definitely slowed down buying in the last year+.

Two guitar boards, one bass board and a two pedal synth "board". I have no interest in doing the math. I can't imagine I would actually replace this gear if something catostrophic happened.

I don't have a photo of it, but my synth "board" is a Hologram Chroma Console into a Chase Bliss CXM 1978 reverb.
