One purpose of a fever is thought to be to raise the body's temperature enough to kill off certain bacteria and viruses sensitive to temperature changes. One interesting debate right now, therefore, is, "Should you lower a fever?" Aspirin, for example, will reduce fever; but if the fever is actually helping rid the body of infection, then lowering it might not be a good idea. On the other hand, people sometimes die from fever. Right now the general medical consensus falls on the "reduce the fever" side of the fence.
Just took my temp again, cuz the Tylenol is wearing off. 102.4.
I read the other day that a fever is, believe it or not, actually a cunning plan by the auto-immune system to annihilate viruses etc.. Turns out that, maybe, those lecherous lurgies can't stand the heat so they get outta the kitchen.…
To back this up, here's a little info from How Stuff Works,
Ride it out, Joe. Take it easy. And get well soon.
Yes, It does work. You will still feel like crap, but you just wont care.Your best bet is to drink screwdrivers until you're catatonic. That always works for me. Just be sure to use real O.J..

Man - I am not one to rush to the doctor, but I don't like the phone only diagnosis.
Are the fever reducers effective at all??
What's your energy level like?
I'd suggest seeing a doctor and having them listen to your lungs. I had a fever hit me suddenly, paired with a cough. Within hours fever was 102 ish. Next morning it was 103 ish.
Pneumonia is what it turned out to be. And - antibiotics typically work on that.
Knocked the fever out completely in about 18 hours. Proper recovery took about two weeks, and I was still not quite right for nearly two months. I remember asking the doc about that - he reminded me that "pneumonia kills people, this will take a while".

Almost identical to a trick I learned from Mike Panera. He suggested two additional things. Take a double dose of Alka-Seltzer and turn the heat way up. I have done it and it works.Skivvies, then sweats, then pile blankets on the bed. Drink all the water you can hold and crawl under the blankets. The idea is to raise your temp and sweat as much as possible overnight. It doesn't always work for me, but it does often enough it's my first try when i come down with fever and cough. If it works you will begin to feel better the next morning and should be up and around by mid day.
Need suggestions.
I'm sick. I never get sick. Well, until now. I have a really bad cough that kept me up all last night, and a fever of almost 102. Have a gig on Friday too, which should be fun if this crap doesn't let up. Anyhow, I'm on tylenol, and cough syrup, and garlic, and oranges and tea.... and this:

Now while this may look simply like a Vicks container, what makes this thing unique is that I believe it to be about 35 years old, or older. I remember taking it from my parents house when I moved out decades ago, and being shocked at that time that it was still good, because it was so old. As it's true that I never (OK, rarely) get sick, I've used it over the years, and I'm astounded that it's still perfect! It smells as powerful as the day it was first opened, although there's just a drop left.
So I started thinking about today's marketing BS. Just bought a new Vicks. I wonder if it'll last the same amount of time? With planned obsolescence and all, is there any product left on the market that will seemingly last forever? I recently found out that raw honey is supposed to take over 200 years to go bad, so I'll add that - but mine always starts looking kinda funky after a few months.
That's all I've got. Remember please that I'm sick and need to be coddled, so don't post anything mean.
I'm so happy my wife is a nurse midwife.
Had 103 fever last night, and Tylenol only brought it down to 101. Same today. Feelin like KaKa. She called the doctors back and they prescribed a Z pac. She also listened to my lungs (she's a holistic practitioner - a midwife) and said they were clear. This is pretty bizarre because all I have is a high fever (and everything that goes with that), and a really bad dry cough. No sore throat, runny nose, or anything else that typically goes with getting sick.
Secret for you Joe, Vicks rubbed in on your chest and back and now here is the secret two piece of newspaper one on your chest one of your back stuck to the vicks wear a T-shirt to hold it in place the newspaper holds in your body heat you will recover quicker if you use this method. No BS I use it anytime I get sick which is no often thankfullyNeed suggestions.
