How to answer "How many people will you bring?"

One possible response:

"If you have to ask how many people WE can bring, then you must be desperate to fill seats in which case you should probably check out Restaraunt Impossible and talk with Robert Irvine to see why your place is so empty that you need to rely on a hired act to bring in guests, instead of relying on the quality of your establishment."

You wont get hired, but I bet you're laughing right now because it's so true. :D

Use gigs where you had to charge a cover to get an idea of how many ppl come out, free shows usually bring in more ppl (depending on the weather). Ppl who actually pay see you either dig the music or like you enough to support you or both. Take the middle to Max amount ppl who have come out to a cover charge shows and use that as a number.

If you over estimate and say 200 ppl and only 30 come out, you dont look so good, if you under estimate and say 30 youlll sound like you will bring in 9 ppl and are stretching the number.

It's a tough call and I am all over the place on this one.

If your an originals band and your doing $5.00 at the door back rooms, nobody is going to ask, however if nobody shows and they don't sell any alcohol? ??

We play clubs with built in crowds but it's becoming that safety net you can no longer count on.

For example, say the bar only does 950.00 and they have to pay the band $500.00. The owner would be better off paying $100.00 to a karaoke vendor.

I dunno "how many people are you bringing" is a dumb ass question. If your club doesn't have a consistent draw, how the hell are going to pay my band? If people walk through the door, we'll keep them drinking and dancing. If no one comes to your club, maybe you should consider an all you can eat buffet instead of having bands.

Depends a lot on the show, and whether it's a cover or original gig. Cover gigs they can screw you for money if you don't bring what you say, originals (if it's a worthwhile club) I'll say I can guarantee 25-30, but we often draw lots more. And then if it doesn't happen, well... it doesn't happen. Nobody can ever guarantee any amount of people. Venues that are depending on my band to bring their customers I generally don't play anymore. It never turns out beneficial. I can't bring enough people to a cover gig to warrant $500 - $1000, and if I'm only playing to the people I'm bringing to an original show, it seems like a bit of wasted opportunity. Much rather play to people who want to see us, and as many new people as possible.

I'd like to know how many clubs you go out to for the food, for the environment?
Clubs, not restaurants. Not bars.
But how many live music venues do you attend on a weekly basis, when not playing there, yourself.
How much do you spend there?

I love the remarks, the backtalk...the snider, the better...but in five years at one venue alone, I've never had a single act respond in such a manner...not even close.

It's tricky, say you told the owner your band could bring in 50 people and he books you on a night the packers are playing or the night your booked a huge snow storm comes through.
