Looks like someone spent 3 decades as a bedroom player. You'd think he'd understand a little more.

He's stated numerous times, he doesn't have the skills to run a band, and here he is talking about bookings. He has probably never booked a single show in his life, which is what I thought this thread was about.

My standard response:

"I'll invite everyone I know, send a blanket e-mail, and post it up on my Facebook page."

I never commit to a number.

I'm 53 years old, and most of my friends don't have Peter Pan syndrome like me. Even on weekends, they are falling asleep in front of the TV just as we're beginning our second set.

I have a small group who like to come out and party regularly, but the exact number changes frequently, and it's nothing to hang my hat on.

Many,many others gig here on a regular basis. We just don't see the need to remind everyone in every other post we make. Or to try and boost our ego insinuating (and insulting) that someone may or may not gig and only play at home.

I'd just like to point out, for those keeping score at home, or...in your bedroom...

If the argument is "how many people can you bring out" because the venue is doing poorly...
then, where does that tell you where you are on the totem pole?

I don't like the tone in which that question has been asked, at times, but if you pretend that it is not a significant question for an unknown band at a new venue (new as in, it's your first time there), then perhaps your business model is askew.

I would never assume it fair to demand a draw from a band traveling from any great distance, nor a touring band, for that matter, but it is fair to ask.
As in, how much local support will this show require, so as to oblige all financial arrangements.

I think you have me confused with someone else.

As far as bookings, I did book my band into one of our larger WI county fairs this year. But no it's not anything I would be good at.

I'll stick to being the bass guitarist and if our band ever finds themselves looking for a booking agent or someone with expertice in organizing multiple bands for " one off " gigs you would definitely be considered.

Um.. I gig 6-12 times a month.. It's just that my ego is not so fragile that I need to tell everyone here about it in every freeking post... And I did not take a 30 year break from giging either.... Get over yourself.

The really nice thing is you don't have to question. His entire history is well documented here at TB. Sure, he'll try to tell you someone ELSE was named "Bluewine" and took a 30 year break from playing, but the evidence speaks for itself. Sort of like his posts.

Very true, a venue in Sheffield (who will remain nameless) has recently been dropped from our gig circuit after a conversation with the manager basically went:

" I'm really sorry but the manager of the chain are only booking DJs for friday and saturday nights now because they say its cheaper. " Turns out they're getting paid the same as they were paying the bands anyway.

They now have a budget of £70 for 'live music' mid week and are acting very surprised that none of their former acts are willing to a) take a paycut and b) play on a thursday night to bugger all people.

We play a local bar that books both live bands and dj's. They regularly have hip-hop dj's that charge $10 at the door, whereas bands are only allowed to charge $5. I honestly don't know how big a crowd they draw, but it must be decent enough to charge that amount of money. This is a small town and there are absolutely no places for people who like hip-hop to go to, so I can see it working out. Funny thing is, one Saturday they will have a hip hop dj, the next they will have my country rock band. Crazy!!
