Double Bass hybrid gut string choices 2024

What instrument are you playing? Sounds wonderful. Are those synthetic or gut core?

I understood you have also played the new thicker Tempera Hybrids. How would you compare these two sets? Thanks!
Gerold is very kind and is sending me a new Helix G at a discount.
Also should be getting a set of Basso2025. He sent a few more recordings as well.
Really just looking for a touch more ring, such a fine line there. A brighter string sounds great acoustic but seems to be worse amplified with my simple setup.
I have had a few different g strings on trying to isolate a buzz and I will say, I think because I have gotten used to the sound of the Helix, all the other steel strings I have had on make it apparent how complex sounding the Sonores strings are.
Also should be getting a set of Basso2025. He sent a few more recordings as well.

fwiw I’m also an amateur viol player and my VDG teacher loves the Pirastro wound gut for the bottom 3.
For bass, I think the Oliv is their “modern” gut and the Chorda is baroque.

Btw, Gerold mentioned he has a Basso2025Solo version for GDAE tuning. It’s a brighter voiced set of strings. So anyone looking for brighter strings that still have the gut vibe might ask him about those.

THANK YOU! The strings are Gerold's latest BASSO model. I'm not sure how they differ from previous incarnations, but I REALLY like them! The bass is an old English Hawkes, with medium action in the 5mm-8mm range.
Wow, that was extremely fast.
Will try to get the B25 on tonight and get them settled in for a weds rehearsal.
The Helix G is the darker string in the pic.
Btw I put a plain Gamut Lyon G and Pistoy D on my bass with the Helix A and E.
The G sits great with the rest of the set. D was a little dark and thuddy. Worked ok though.
Makes one more aware of how much like gut the Helix sound but also have more complexity on the upper frequencies for the lower strings. Plus the Sonores strings are tuning stable and also bow well. The full set of Helix are an extremely well matched set of strings.

Hey Massimo, Thanks for the words!! Funny enough the bass is a loaner from my friend Massimo in NY. It's an old Kay, that's hands down the best Kay I've ever played. The strings are Genssler JRoques D and G and I think the E and A were Helicore Hybrid Lights. The pickup is a Gage Lifeline and the amp is a Quilter, not sure the model.
Just dropping in to say I only put the replacement Helix g on. Have a few rehearsals and wanted to get used to the full Helix set again.
Also cleaning up a real ebony tailpiece to try instead of the lightweight ebonized one i have as Gerold recommends a heavier one if I remember correctly.
Basso will be on soon.
What are the windings on the Basso 2025 set like? The pictures I've seen of them look similar to the Velvet copper color windings. Are they completely smooth, or more like the Velvet Animas or Blue strings?
