It’s a 2007. The body needs to be painted before it can be hydro dipped. Hydrographic paint has a dip window of 12 months where normal autozone car paint has a dip window of 24-48 hours. The dip window starts after the last coat of paint and all the hydro dip and clear coat need to be done before the window closes.

I’m actually thinking about doing a fender style paisley with about the black burst. I talked to the hydro film company about custom making this film. I think the base coat here is grey. I want to do metallic gold as my base coat.

So, a big simplification of my earlier question is this:
Could an amber clear coat (or just a clear clear coat) act as the base coat in this instance?

I’m not suggesting you should do it, I’m just wondering if it could be done.

I just checked out the site I get my paint from and they do offer a clear base coat exactly for that purpose.

I ordered the gold paint today. I also got a metallic intercoat which is basically metallic top coat. I also want to do a paint over paisley kinda like this on a short scale sbmm ray. I’m just
Not sure about what color to do in the paint over paisley relic. Obviously the base coat will be white but not sure on the top. I’m thinking possibly Inca silver or lake placid blue.

This is the hydro dip pattern I’m going with for the gpk bass. It’s very close to the fender paisley that they do one the CS jazz bass. I’m gonna use metallic gold as my base coat.

Yeah I’ve done pickguards. U need to clear coat it but it should hold up
