I can only bring 5 basses...

So, I'm moving to Seattle in 2 months to start a new job (yay!). However, the places I can reasonably afford to live in are a LOT smaller than my home, so I'm resigning myself to leaving stuff in storage/behind. My current basses in consideration are:


Lakland 55-01
Fender Road Worn Precision
Fender MIA Jazz
Fender MIJ 62RI Jazz
G&L L-2000
G&L SB-2
Rickenbacker 4003s
Musicman Sabre
Musicman Stingray SLO
Musicman S.U.B. Stingray

If I can only have space for 5, here's what I'm thinking:

Lakland cus 5 string.
Ric cuz Ric
Sabre cuz versatility
MIA Jazz because Jazz bass
RW Precision cuz everyone needs a P-bass


Now, the only basses that I'm flip flopping on are the Sabre and the Precision. I could take the Stingray and the SB-2, which both cover similar tones but with their own flavor.

I think I would give up a piece of furniture instead of leaving basses behind...besides extra basses can always be stored in a closet and under a bed...

but if i were forced to only bring five...

Stingray SLO

RW Precision cuz everyone needs a P-bass

The Ric is a one trick pony and as much as I like mine it only comes out for certain projects

I’d take the Sabre, the stingray SLO, the Ric, the L2000, and a Jazz. I personally never liked the p-bass sound and I’m a huge MusicMan fan and the SLO neck is amazing. You always need a jazz, the L2K is super versatile and I couldn’t bear to put the Ric in storage. If I really needed a p-bass sound either the neck Pickup in a jazz or the Neck pu on the L2000 is close enough for me.

I think your list is well thought out.

A part of me goes “waaah!” at the thought of losing that MIJ JB and the L2000. But I’m sure you already felt that a little bit too, right?;)

Anyway, I’d go with your list. It’s solid.:cool:

Congratulations on the job and move.
If you're happy with your chosen basses, that's what is important.
I was wondering about the storage part. Heard a few stories about units with gear getting hit. So make sure you tuck in them babies in a good secure place.

Keep both G&Ls, the Sabre, SUB and the Lakland. I will take the rest for safe keeping here and make sure they have a good home. I'll even pay shipping!
