I give up. I give up on men, I give up on dating, I JUST GIVE UP!!!! I'm becoming a NUN. Or...an old cat lady.

Why, why, why do the men I date all tell me THEY DON'T WANT A RELATIONSHIP RIGHT NOW?? Obviously that's code for "I don't want a relationship with YOU." OK, I get it. I smell funny or something. I get it.

Bass Boy didn't want to get married yet. Said it would slow him down. Had asked 2 other girls to marry him earlier and they shot him down so he wasn't asking ever again. He's not dating anyone now...maybe he's gay, I don't know. He's the one that hangs out with fat married chicks.

Then there was Non-Bass Boy. He did some kind of flip-out and stopped answering his phone. Thought he wasn't interested, but then I get weird e-mails telling me how he's depressed and that he's been sitting around watching Netflix for the past 2 weeks. Ok, he need a therapist. Plus, some girl he wanted to marry shot him down.

Why is it guys don't want to marry, oh EVER, or have relationships, EVER AGAIN after being shot down? Don't they realize that some OTHER girl might be THE ONE?

This is why I give up. I'm going to marry my bass.

Maybe it's the wig?

$10.00 says you'll find the guy of your dreams when your not looking. In other words, maybe your expecting too much.

I make it a point to almost never look for women, I just wait for something to happen with someone. When you are intentionally looking for something, you start to make expectations which are rarely fully realized.

$10.00 says you can find a guy on TB that'd go out with you.

NO! No cat lady! Become a nun, move to the Vatican Ciy, start a band and have the pope front it, but DON'T become a cat lady!

Now, on a more serious note, I like how being shot down for a marriage leads a guy to an...alternate lifestyle. I, personally, want to get married and start a family while I'm young so I'll be in my prime when they start a family. But then, I haven't exactly figured in college and other stuff...

But I guess your bass is a lucky...bass!

Hey! I never let rejection get me down! If I decided to be celibate after my first rejection, man I woulda given up in freshman year of highschool. After like....4 or 5 bigtime rejections (like not even getting to the girlfriend stage) I'm lookin forward to college this fall...yea boy! a whole bunch of girls my age who DON'T KNOW ME and my geeky tendencies! NEW IMPRESSIONS as a cool bassist+ piano major. yea.

Oh, and being shot down makes me more wanting for a girl. It just makes me rework my strategies a bit....mostly the coming on too strong has been my weakness =/

You're with the wrong guys, mi'ja.

Hmmm...

Maybe what Granny used to say was correct? "Honey, you can't let the boys know you like them too much. If you do, they'll dry up like dew on a hot day. Keep a little distance, baby. Makes 'em have to really get to know you. And then you'll know which one you like best!"

At the time, I thought she was hopelessly old-fashioned. But I think she was really right.

Meet guys. Hang out. Let them get to really know you. The ones who are really having a nice time getting to know you are the ones to keep around.

You're fat? :p

Seriously, dis, you've been this guy for what? A couple of weeks? Maybe he isn't interested in a serious relationship right now, so what? It doesn't mean one won't sneak up on him and catch him by surprise.

Remember, this guy is nine years younger than you are. At 23, it sounds like he's pretty much like a lot of other 23-year-olds: He's focused on getting his life together so that he can then start thinking about serious, marriage-type relationships. What did you expect? You knew how old he was when you started dating.

It sounds like you're looking for a long-term relationship -- So much so, in fact, that you might be giving guys the feeling that it's not really them you're interested in, so much as getting married. How do you think this makes the guy feel?

(I speak from experience, by the way. There was a time when I was "looking to get married," and just the vibe I was giving off was enough to scare most girls away.)

Why don't you just take a break and stop looking so hard? The right guy is out there, or not -- Either way, things will work out for the best in the end. You're an attractive, intelligent girl (don't you get tired of people telling you that all the time?), you don't need to force things regarding relationships and the like.

Like I said, just calm down, take a breath, and think about what *you* want to do. Forget about guys for a while -- Just play your bass, go to work, hang with your friends...

Oh, and (please don't think I'm being rude in saying this; it's really not my intention) get off the Internet for a while! I mean, between TB, your MySpace, and your personal homepage, you are really out there for the world to see. If you're an exhibitionist who gets a charge out of this, then I guess it's cool. But, I've got to think that you're spending too much time in a world that doesn't exist and it might be screwing with your priorities.

Seriously, dis, I say this because I care as much as a person can about someone they've never met who might, in reality, be a dog:

Take a break. Re-assess. Take a look at your priorities and think about whether or not they reflect the person you really want to be.

And, stop caring what people on Internet bulletin boards think. We don't exist. It's your life and you need to live it. By your own rules.

Stop trying to figure out what's wrong with the guys. Start thinking about the choices *you* are making.

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh -- But, I speak candidly and directly to my friends. I hope you understand that. :)

Good advice. You meet the best people when you're not lookin' for 'em.

The night I met my husband, I told my girlfriend, "I need a man like a need a box of rocks."

Three hours later, she introduced me to the man I'd end up marrying. Who knew?

Nah, I don't think you're harsh at all. I WOULD LIKE to get off the internet, but I don't have many friends to hang out with anymore. I guess it happens when you get older and your friends are all married with kids. I'm sure all your friends are married with kids. They just aren't much for going out. So in reality, I have been hanging out with younger people because they aren't married with kids. I'd like to meet some girls to hang with, but how do you meet girls? I guess at work...but I don't have a job.

I'm not so concerned about 23's lack of whatever. I expected that. I guess I'm mostly tired of being TOLD that they are not interested BECAUSE some girl hurt them in the past. And I never know if that is the truth, or some line that really means "I'm not interested."
