HAHA! I forgot about that song.

"Ooooooooooooh you touch my tralalalaaaa... Ooooooh my ding ding dooooong."

Sounds like you're looking for the right people and finding the wrong people. Simple answer? Stop looking, you'll find the right one when it happens. Be up front and don't play games, make sure guys know they better not waste your time or they wont be getting a second chance.

Most girls like it complicated, and most girls don't like me because I'm very simple and straight forward. That's fine with me, the ones that like it my way really enjoy it and they are the keepers. Current girlfriend for 22 months or so now, it's been a breeze.

Relationships are stupid anyways. Everyone should just have #&%@-buddies until their early 30s, then settle down. Would save everyone a lot of heahaches.

And create a lot more potential for STD's and Preggers. :rollno:

Sorry to hear about your situation Dis. I agree with SoulGeezer's first post though. Just chillax, take it slow, and if all else fails, there's celibacy and entire 'nother sex at your disposal! :D I'm being quite serious about the last statement, and for those who are wondering my girlfriend would kill me if i went on the other side of the plate. :p

So much so, in fact, that you might be giving guys the feeling that it's not really them you're interested in, so much as getting married. How do you think this makes the guy feel?

(I speak from experience, by the way. There was a time when I was "looking to get married," and just the vibe I was giving off was enough to scare most girls away.)

+ several million

It's late and I'm stupid tired so I'll make another response having actually read the whole thread tomorrow. That said...

I don't know about other guys, but I've said "I'm not looking for a relationship" several times in the past year...but that's because I honestly, really wasn't. At all. Zip, zero, no interest. Enjoying the single life after spending 2 years pining, getting shot down by, built up again, shot down again, almost-being-with-but-not-really, etc. by the same girl.

I was tired of never being in control of my love life, of feeling like I never had a say, because for 2 years it was always what she said was how we were going to be and that's just how it was. Friends for a few months, more for 6 weeks, back to friends. Rinse and repeat. When you're single, meeting new people, you can set the boundaries, you can set the level of involvement that you are comfortable with.

Still not particularly looking for a relationship personally -- I'm comfortable with idea of dating and exclusivity that follows eventually, but a serious relationship still isn't on my visible horizon. Fear of commitment? Maybe. As I see it now, it's less of a fear and just a lack of desire for it.

Well, it's tough on the guys side of the fence as well with relationships. We get serious mixed signals as much as any gal.

Main thing is finding someone that wants you the same as you want them.

That's not easy to do.
And that want/desire has different intensities.

If it's a lot, then things are good.
If it's a little, okay, probably not going to keep seeing eachother after some time etc. Often it's lop sided.

Some want someone for now, then look for a real partner later.
That's no good.

Folks often want to see where things might go. Sometimes it's nowhere, sometimes it leads to a successful relationship, that's not to say that it last forever.

I'd rather have a successful relationship for 5 years than a unsuccssful marriage for 20 years. Seen plenty of those.

I think many times folks are not honest, they lack to courage to be honest and tell folks things they know will hurt them and they do not want to hear. They say they are all honest, but real honesty takes spine and guts. I've met some pretty gutless gals over the years, and I know some gutless guys.

We all self doubt and wonder are we being too harsh etc. What is a deal breaker?

Hard to say.

I'd marry a gal pretty fast, and actually want to marry her if she had the qualities that would allow passion for her career, her intellect, me of course, her body. I'm passionate about these things in life, I'd want the same from a partner. That's not easy to find if you are in your 30's.

Most have kids, or trip if you have kids, the issues get complex fast there. Some are simply crazy and will never settle down.
Many lack passion of direction in life.

Or if they have these qualities, heck, they are not attractive to me or I to them. I know gals have the same darn gripes too.

You have to be attracted to them.
That's the easy part, finding out the rest is tougher.
Takes energy and putting yourself at risk.

I try and do fun things when I'm single or in a LTR.
I have a list of things I like.
Bass is on that list!
I work out at the gym, MT Bike, Road Bike, Climb mountains, go to concerts etc love to play sports, stay in shape/care about myself(body)
I am intellectually curious/well educated and went back to school later.
I strive to do well in my business, work, projects(mind)
Get out and see the world/Travel(spirit).

Life is too short to put up with a bad LTR or settle.
You have a lot of things you can focus on in your life besides having a partner.

Got to be happy with yourself before you can make someone else happy.

Good luck out there, it ain't easy.

Tom

So wait, am I understanding this correctly?

You are with three men at once, you havent been with either for over a year, and you want to marry one of them, doesnt matter which??

...

are you serious?

My advice:

1. Come onto an online discussion board and validate your attractiveness to men by getting men who spend more time on the PC than with their partners to fawn over you for a few months and then head back out to the market newly recharged and ready to hit the singles bars to lure that elusive Mr Right (or Big - see advice below).

2. Watch a Sex and the City Marathon with a block of chocolate, a few cigarettes and a bottle or two of red wine and feel empowered as a woman.

3. Realise that all men are different and the right guy is probably out there somewhere and you just have to keep looking patiently rather than trying to make every man you meet "fit" the mould of your perfect guy. Sometimes the right person for you will come from the most unexpected situation.

:D

I should really have my own Dr Phil type show.
