I can't stand grocery store lines anymore

There are about 3.5 million square miles of land in the US. Maybe find a better spot that fits your own idea of culture.
I'm too old to think of waiting in supermarket lines (queues) as a problem. I can imagine that hungry people from war zones, and across this country would be glad to have enough money to buy their food. Too many either don't have enough money, or the food is too scarce.
I think what has been described, ad nauseam, is a "First World" problem.

Whenever I find myself in a situation that would have upset me when I was younger, I tell myself that there are people in this world who are going to die in the next 24 hours because they don't have food to eat. That reminder helps me put things in perspective and helps me realize that what I think is a problem for me isn't really much of a problem at all. It's pretty cool to be able to just walk into a building, select food choices, have the money to pay for it, and then just walk out with your food. Being able to do that is something that is simply not an option for some people on this planet. For those of us who get to do that, we have so much to be grateful for.

I go early in the morning or late at night. I don't stand in lines if it can be avoided.
You really need to figure out when the grocery store is void of people, and go then. Pretty sure everyone will be happier for that.
I only like lines when they are trying to get in a venue I am playing at .

Similar things happened to me several times about 20 years ago. One day, probably after a month had gone by, she handed me a greeting card in an envelope. I opened it in the parking lot. Card said she was interested and... you know the rest. Next time I was there I gave her a greeting card politely saying thanks but no thanks. I think she got s__tcanned because she was gone after another week or so.
I would've answered, "Because my doctor just told me I have Stage IV lung cancer and I've got only a month to live."
That would've thrown some guilt on him. On the other hand, if he saw me a couple months later still perfectly healthy, he'd have known he got played. Win either way.
We have something similar to that here but without the paying

Wait a minute...you've actually seen 3 or 4 checkout lanes open? My Walmart has 20 checkout lanes but the most I've ever seen open was two, and that was during the Christmas shopping season.
They can't find anyone to work for their paltry wages and, even if workers are available, they don't want to pay those paltry wages.
Let's also face it that service workers dealing face-to-face with the masses have to put up with a lot of crap. i probably wouldn't make it through one day as a Walmart cashier.
Sounds like my local DMV...... 12 stations, 3 open.
I would rather self check anyway. I like putting items in bags by where they go in my kitchen.

No one is trying to slow things down, but most people don't want to pay more than they have to. As to apps like instacart, I don't want other people picking my produce and meat, and in person you can see sales.
I would be leery of this. I see mistakes made regularly by the computer regarding prices. I'll bet most people never check.
I used to shop at a smallish chain grocery store that offered a discount club for your phone number. You entered it at checkout and it would calculate a discount. The cashier would hand you your ticket and tell you how much your discount saved you. One day when she told me how much I'd saved, without thinking I replied, "To be honest, I'd prefer the discount be reflected in the shelf prices." She didn't get if for a few seconds, then a cloud came over her face and she shoved my ticked at me and turned away when I took it from her.

They were offering you the discount for your phone number so you could be targeted for marketing. If the price were on the shelves, they wouldn't have gotten your phone number (and your authorization to access it).
