I can't stand grocery store lines anymore

What l find annoying is going to the corner store/gas stAtion to buy gas and some yahoo is trying to figure out his lotto numbers and which friggin scratch off games to play.

All l want is 20 on pump 7......
I always pay at the pump, but sometimes go in to get a soft drink or coffee. It's happened a few times that some bozo is doing the lotto thing and holding up the line and the cashier will just wave me out with a freebie.

True.... true..... but I've had the opposite experience at self checkouts (Walmart - Lowes isn't much better) where the big screen had so much "stuff" on it and no matter where I pushed it didn't DO anything. I finally had to turn and find the only attendant and yell out to her.... "Hey, can you help me? Apparently I'm too stupid to check out. All I wanna do is give you money and I leave. Why is it giving me a quiz without accepting any answers I give it?" Without any emotion she swipes her badge. Hits 20 keys with blazing speed (I'm thinking she's done this before) and walla. We're all done. Technology is going backwards..... but.... its this or I hand some snot nosed idiot some money and hope he can make the proper change out of it.

What's really annoying is , pre-covid, Houston had tons of 24 hour Kroger's and Wal-Marts. This was great because l could get off a gig and go shopping with almost nobody but myself in the store.

This also put me in prime position when the meat department put out the meat that needed to be sold that day.

Crash out at 4 A.M. , up at noon, quality steak and eggs for breakfast.

I can't stand shopping during the day after that.

Self checkout is a whole other level of idiotic. It’s a well known fact, in retail, that most loss happens at the register. In part, that’s because there are some people who are really skilled at stealing stuff right in front of your face. To a certain extent that’s unavoidable, and something you just try to minimize. Just imagine how much harder that is when you intentionally remove the human observer from the equation. Just imagine how many more people suddenly become master thieves.

Not by coincidence, a bunch of big companies have finally acknowledged the loss problem, and are pulling back on self checkout. Others are probably stuck between a rock and a hard place, having embraced self checkout because they either couldn’t afford or couldn’t attract enough employees.

One big bong rip and go about 10 at nite, all good then, in many ways  :smug:

Violates rule #1: never go shopping when you're hungry or stoned.

I like shopping mid-day by myself. Neither the selection nor service is any better...I just like the hausfrau / mom buttz shoehorned into yoga pants. I also know the store better than the sales associates. Can't find a particular item?....can't reach the top shelf or rear of the freezer shelf?...just ask as I'm here to help.

I’m the guy that left all his stuff in the belt, then took a stroll out to the car to get my wallet. I’m not in a hurry.

I look forward to estimating the number of exploded heads by the splatter pattern of gore and bits of skull… once I return.

Sometimes, I have to drive home to get the wallet.

But fear not. I will return.

Which brings up another one:
The mother who allows her kid to open a bag of snacks in the supermarket and eat it before paying for it.
I don't know exactly why, but the encouraging of instant gratification really irks me! It's not yours until you PAY FOR IT!!!!

Here's a thought: swing-by the deli counter and request a "sample slice" of American cheese, pastrami, whatever to keep them occupied for at least the first few aisles. Bonus points for the upscale markets with top-tier seafood departments...on occasion, they're handing-out prepared horse-de-orves on toothpicks.

How about this?
"Be patient. You can eat something when we get home."

That would be the correct route...I'm more interested in "quiet". Personally, I think they should be barred from the stores....service dogs, okay. That being said, I do appreciate witnessing a full blown melt-down on occasion.
