I can't stand grocery store lines anymore

So yeah, checkout lines suck, but my temper starts to weaken in a line at the hardware store. Why? Because I'm there due to some problem, probably plumbing-related ( 👎🏻 ) and therefore already a bit flummoxed, then there's some dude ahead of me who has apparently never paid for items at a counter before, or is extra chatty with the help.

Just had it happen, and I go a little nuts. Just a little.

Annoys me as well. I just have NO patience.
BUT..I try to not go during Peak shopping hours. Use the self checkouts.

Also, my Grocery stores Have the "scanner" that you can take with you and scan the items as you shop, so when you done, ya just pay. (yea, you're still held back by slow folks at checkout, but it makes it just 'that much easier' when ya get there).

Overall, I do agree with the original post.

I feel your pain, but I have been trying for years to make the grocery store check out rhumba into a kind of zen exercise in calm patience/letting go.

sometimes it works .... sometimes I just get aggravated
Same. This is a great exercise. Several years back, I was in a long, slow line at the supermarket and started to get annoyed. I guess the extra time allowed me to have a moment of clarity as I looked around and realized how lucky we are to have warehouses full of food that we can just pop into and get whatever food we want from just about anywhere in the world. This has not been the case for the vast majority of human history and is still not the case in many places around the globe. That supermarkets exist is really a marvel unto itself.

We take many things for granted. We are lucky to have what we have. If waiting a few minutes for someone to scan and bag all my items so I can wave my magic pocket computer at a screen is all it takes, I feel like I should appreciate that by showing patience and gratitude. This applies to so many aspects of life, and keeping that perspective has helped me let go of so much unnecessary stress. I figure there is enough stress in the world without me getting in my own way over trivial things.

I have something that is really bothering me. I can,t stand it when I get in line at a grocery store and it takes forever to check out. People with there phones out showing the cashier were to get things cheaper to price match and there coupons on there phone. I see people swiping across there screen trying to find what they are looking for. I have made a bit of a scene a few times throwing my stuff back in my cart and talking Out loud about the person holding up.the line. Rant off
.
I will spend 30 minutes shopping at a store and if the check out line is too long I will straight up park my cart and leave. It's terribly inefficient behavior, but I have no patience in public. Everything and everyone is just an obstacle in my way. Then again, I am AuDHD so some of that is because of an operating system that I have little control over.

that's a bigger bugbear for me.

there is a cashier in my local supermarket who INSISTS on making idle chitchat with me or passing comment on something in my basket.

i actively avoid her even if it means standing in a longer queue.
I once had a male cashier ask Me "Sir,Why are you so serious? Why are you so serious looking?"
I said nothing.
I was using my calculator and said to myself,"I can't get Women to ask Me that question.
I'll be damned if I'm replying to some dude"

True story: At the Lowe's lawn & garden check-out, the cashier tried to shut-down the line with myself and 8 other customers in line. I employed the ol' Clark Griswold line "the moose says you're closed, I say you're open". I had a 100 lbs of Sakrete and a 6 ft garden trellis in the cart...the only direction I was moving was forward towards my vehicle.

Yeah, tough to put up with in our “got to have it now” world. For that, nothing works better than a little instant gratification while you wait. Grab a Snickers off the rack and munch your way to your happy place.
