I committed discrimination...

I don't understand how this is acceptable. Everyone in this thread, except for one, has excused you for your actions. I can't. It's significant that you recognize that your actions were wrong; however, I feel that's it's important, even further, to evaluate what about you, when in anger, made you lash out at them based upon nationality. There are rude people and polite people, (unfortunately far more of the former than the latter). Nationality has nothing to do with it. There are rude and polite French people, rude and polite Netherlanders, rude and polite Nigerians, rude and polite Jews, Christians, Latinos, Nebraskans, Chinese, men, women, etc.

Your actions were inexcusable and your contriteness is admirable.

Agreed.

Peace
Nick

...Probably some of them act that way because many people native from South of France are unpolite and respectless themselves. Well, I dunno....

This is one of the reasons I haven't been in a hurry to visit Canada, the french speaking parts, I've heard that they can be very snooty and rude to americans and have a general distane for us.

I wouldn't feel like yelling at the french canadians, I'd just go back to the states and regret ever seeing canada.

That's not really true... it's just like everywhere else in that there are some nice people and some dumbasses.

That seems to be a fairly common myth and I have no idea where it comes from. All of my friends from the U.S. who have visited Quebec had a blast.

Well, did you ever come here ? I don't think so. So now, let me tell you. MANY (I'm even tempted to say "most") Netherlanders who come and live in France have a leitmotiv in their talking : "France is an awesome country ; unfortunately, there are French people living there". This is not excusable either. Never.

So, even if what I said was not a reflect of what I actually thought, and as you stated I repeat I am conscious I should not have spoken that way, I believe there's a cause to be found, and this cause is their nasty talking.

BTW, I am no nationalist. I am very favorable to the building of a strong European Union, and I demand respect from everyone to everyone. And more specifically from people whose country can do nothing for European military defense. (This point is not discrimination : it's a fact)

I didn't excuse Jean's behavior, I can empathize with his frustration at their rudeness.

I merely stated that his emotions got the better of him. And it happens. I was/am in no way excusing it.

Jean, your courage in bringing this thread up is admirable. It has reminded me how important it is to stay in control, especially in those situations.

Thanks. I don't feel proud, neither of my reaction nor of making apologies, though.

Finally, I wish to say that if this happened with a man instead of a woman (the arragant behaviour), I would have "solved the problem" (ahum...) with my fist in his face. That's no solution either, I know.

How do you know I've never been there, I'm actually quite well traveled. It's not a safe assumption to make that I have been or haven't been to any particular place.

Of course it's not excusable for an individual Netherlander to say anything discouraging about French people. So, that justifies it to you? "Well, he did it, so why can't I?" C'mon, you know better than that. By posting this thread I know that you know better than that. It's clear that you know the right thing to do, and the wrong thing to do, but it might be time to evaluate what level of control you have over your temper.

Oh, that's a nice advice, thanks. When I was younger, my main problem was that I wouldn't exteriorize my feelings when I was bothered. Now I do. In a strong but short way. And it's probably more adequate than everlasting resentment.

You won't see me be polite to unpolite people. Sorry, doctor.

Hell Im 18 and by the time I was 17 I had been to the USA (where I live), Canada, a couple countries in the Bahamas, France, Spain, England, Luxemburg, Belgium, Holland, and Germany.

Its not a good idea to make assumptions about anyone on most things. Especially if you are using it to challenge the intergrity of what they said and through that their character.

Peace

What I meant is that, since I live in the South of France, I am more aware than Jazzbo about Netherlanders' behaviour in the South of France.

Don't forget Jean, you asked.

I know. Thanks.

I also know I shouldn't have been discriminating.
I also know I should've posted nothing, or should've posted in a "politically correct" way, saying "ooooooh, why did I hurt these pooooooor unpolite people".
I also know if a Netherlander insults my wife, I'll have to say "thank you".
I also know I can ask almost nobody to understand WHY I had this reaction.

OK.

Naw but I find it rather ironic how I have heard that "France is the cradle of all culinarism" - and then that the French dine at Mickey D's :D

Wow, nothing I said could be construed that way unless you really weren't paying attention.

Again, I think you posting this thread was quite admirable.

Yes, I did. And according to what I read from you, you focused on what I said, you carried a judgement on me, and you avoided to take a clear position about this f****ng group of s*ck*rs who sat down at my table.

There are no effects without causes, and I just regret you did not try to analyse the cause.
