Hugs are alright, except when you go to hug another guy and both parties go for the same side, resulting in that strange awkward face-to-face situation.

I don't like being hugged!

I don't mind hugs, but for me, they're reserved for people with whom I have more than a casual relationship. At the gig on Friday, there was a woman there with her husband who really dug my band and insisted on buying all of us drinks (not being big drinkers, my guitarist, drummer, and I all took Pepsi 
). She gave me like two hugs after I loaded out at the end of the night. Kinda awkward, but it goes with the gig, I suppose.

If I know someone and am close friends, I don't mind hugging.
If I don't know you, why can't I just shake your hand. It seems that the handshake/hug thing has gone too far. Just shake my hand and leave it at that.

How about a moistened pinky-finger in the output mechanism that shall not be mentioned as a friendly way of departing? Would you prefer that?

If I lived in Europe then, as they say, I'd have to do as the Romans do. But since I live on this side of the pond I'm under no obligation to hug or kiss anyone. What ever happened to the good old days when men and women would shake hands and leave it at that?
I hate it. I'll do it to be polite, but I'm never comfortable doing so, I don't even hug my mother unless it is her birthday or something special.
I'd wrap my arms around my girlfriend and hold her forever, but if I can avoid hugging anybody else, I will.

Hugging is reserved for females or my father/brother/grandfather/uncle. Men may shake my hand. I have quite a few friends with a frail "grandma fingers" handshake...
