I don't like being hugged!

I generally prefer that people don't touch me, but I'll accommodate them for a greeting or farewell hug. The more I resist and they insist, the more angry we both get, so I just get it out of the way and avoid the awkwardness.

What I can't stand is someone coming up behind me and embracing me without warning. I have to suppress an instinct to elbow them in the face.

I like hugs.

How about one of these Stratovani?

Absolutely! I have no problem with that! :D

A good friend of mine is an Arab. Those people hug to say hello, they hug to say goodbye..... They kiss you on the cheek as well. I make an effort, but my usual position is "don't **** in touch me".......

Yesterday my wife and I went to a local coffee shop, where we met up with some of her friends from her church (I'm not a churchgoer, but that's for another thread). After coffee one of her friends gets up to leave, and proceeds to go around hugging everyone. I told her that I don't like to be hugged, but she went ahead and tried to hug me anyways. I resisted her, so after a few second she gave up. To me that shows a complete lack of respect for my wishes.

We seem to have developed into a society of huggers. I wasn't brought up that way, and I wish people would respect my wishes and not hug me. I let my wife and kids hug me, but that's as far as I'll go. A handshake, fine, but please, no hugs!

Anyone else feels like me?
First off, I always respect someone's space. If someone is so open as not to want a hug, I'll just skip the handshake and wave goodbye so as not to enter the person's space at all.
Secondly, we have not developed into a society of huggers. Huggers have always existed and you have, now, met more people who are into hugging. They've always been there.
Thirdly, I'm from a society where even a hand shake is an awkward affectionate display of affection from a stranger. Try bowing from a distance. A handshake by a complete stranger? You might as well pinch my bottom.
