I don't need another bass.

I have two dandies--my Hofner and a short scale PJ, so I don't need anything else, although I'm sometimes curious about others, like acoustics. But most often, when I try other basses, I like mine better.

I owned only 1 bass for a very long time--and only bought another when I decided I wanted to play fretless.
I may not ever buy another one--although I have entered draws to win one.

If I do buy another it would be either to replace one of my basses or there is something significantly different, not just slightly different.

I'm the same. My Franken P and Franken Fretless Jazz are the only ones I play now. Every bass I play gets compared to them and, at least as far as playability is concerned, they all fall short.

I'm kind of getting there too. Last night I was shopping for equipment and realized that there was no reason to be. At all. I'm set on basses for all practical terms, my amp is fine (though amps are primarily what I lust after, just for the hell of it) and there's no reason to change anything. There is a high end boutique instrument I want, so I'll be saving until I can afford it... But that's strictly a "want" and not a need. Think I'm going to sit tight until then.

The concept of tying needs to acquisitions inthis place is, unless you're very lucky, likely to incite an ugly mob. You could very well be clubbed into submission by guys using their Squiers as pledge paddles (the custom Shop axes usually stay at home for this sort of action).

I get what you're saying. For your musical needs, these two basses are enough. I had only one bass up to 2000 when I bought a custom upright. It took me another 15 years to buy a second bass, and since then my colection went up to the current 7 basses that I own presently and my upright.
From these basses, that I only own that I feel like I really don't need which is my Toby Pro IV but that bass has a sentimental value and I plan to mod it next year to aguilar pu+preamp and then it can function as my backup bass for some of my gigs.
I think that with 6 of my basses I have my sonic needs covered and they all get played regularly.
But I still want to get 2 more basses just because I love them and GAS is strong in me...
I'm so Gasin' for the new epiphone thunderbird vintage pro SB and the new Mustang JMJ also... drooldrooldrooldrooldrooldrooldrooldrooldrool

EDIT: But then sometimes I feel that I need a PJ 5 stg bass, so I can tune my other 5stg to EADGC and the other to BEADG... man, I don't know when it's gonna stop...
