Maybe I'm just a big softee but I see an opportunity to put the bare minimum into it to get it shipshape, and selling it on for cost to a promising up and coming younger player.

Yeah Doc, you bought a professional american made Peavey P bass and it sounds awesome on my stereo speakers (both clips) (My stock '77 walnut brown Fender P bass sounded exactly like your Peavey Fury bass!). For only $70 bucks? Damn, even those strings on the bass sound very good! Congrats!
Thanks! Some people don't believe me, but I feels no ways lacking comparing a Fury to a Fender P or a Foundation with Super Ferrites to a Fender J.
There is something I really love about old round wounds. I am tempted put flats on my Fury, but Old rounds really give me the sound in my head.

BTW, I found that best of both worlds worn in rounds/ not so dead flats sound in Roto 77 flats. You might give them a try sometime. Sweeet.

The only thing you need, Doc, is Bill Summers and a bottle. Great job!At a pawnshop today, I saw a P-Bass style Peavey Fury that was white with a white pickguard that was cracked at the jack. The jack was held in place with a washer. I asked to play it. The neck was straight, the action was low, and it had a killer tone. The owner told me I could have it for $70 and no tax. For that price, I am thinking of buying it and putting on a new pickguard and jack on it when I have time. Maybe a Hipshot D-Tuner too. I could do all of that for $200.
Sorry, my kid (middle schooler, not a baby) was in the car with my phone, so no pictures. It is hard to walk away from Peavey when it plays and sounds as good as a Fender for less than some Ti Flats.

SMDH! Nothing but overpriced Squiers, Washburns and Arias at the pawn shops I go to. Never a bargain in my area! Congrats!
The Deep South and Midwest are the Peavey heartland, and turn up a lot around here.

my pawnshops always have the following:
several Squier Stratocasters
a few Epiphone Les Pauls overpriced
one pointy black bc rich death metal guitar
one or two non -USA peavey guitars
a black Squier P-bass (or copy), usually missing a string and action high enough to notch an arrow
an overpriced Epiphone EB-0 or EB-3 with high action
a Dean bass
one LTD bass overpriced
several pointy Ibanez guitars more at home in the 80s
several overpriced telecasters
one or two low-end soundgears
i feel like the pawn shop guys pick them all up and move them to the next shop i drive to
