If it makes you feel any better, Dr. C., I watch 'Dinosaur Train' with my kids, every chance I get.
Best theme song of any kid show at the moment.

There are bands out there. Give me an example of what you like from back in the day and I'll do my best to find ya something comparable. Key word comparable. I'd rather hear a new band highly influenced by the past than something of the other.I know the feeling. Most of the Musicians/Bands I like are either retired or dead. And IMO, other than a few random songs, nothing modern is worth listening to
To top it off, I think it may be time to stick a fork in slap, no matter how much I personally love it.
As long as I can listen to Friends by Shalamar, Turn me out by the Whispers, Dynsasty, Cameo, Confunkshun etc. I'm goodAdmitted dinosaur here. But nope.....not giving up slap! Not now, not ever. Doesn't mean it's all I do though. Most of the new music does not move me in any way to abandon a style of playing. I'm over NeoSoul but I appreciate it. Not a Solange fan. She's basically riding her sister's coattails! I appreciate the creativity. Hodge and Thundercat are good. I like that they are not chops guys. I wish more bassists would do that. I'm over the bass player chops fest thing. I do keep up with current music so I know what tunes to add to the band's list. Personal listening.....I find myself going back decades for music that is pleasing to me. Great songwriting, great basslines. I love great pop music. There are some new gems that show up every now and then. They all seem to have traits from yesteryears though! Too bad Prince is no longer here. That void will never be filled.

It's almost impossible to not like Bruno Mars; his music is so totally inoffensive. But also totally derivative, as I'm sure even he would agree. You can listen to the first 16 bars of any of his tunes and name the artist he's copping. I think it's deliberately his play; his songs sound instantly familiar to people and so people adopt them very quickly.I love Bruno Mars, but I really like the idea of music going forward too.
