At 57, I'm the youngest in my band. They keep trying to get me to play really modern stuff like Tom Petty and Johnny Rivers. It's depressing.

Derrick Hodge sounds very stripped down and ambiance driven. That's happening in rock as well.
I don't get Solange. I saw her performance on SNL and found her music boring. The physical energy exerted during the performance was inconsistent with the slow, repetitive song.
I've been saying that since 1980!
I would...but my name isn't Rex....Just call me Bassasaurus Rex.....![]()
The last few days, I have been listening to the new albums by Solange and Derrick Hodge. I love the music, but I really a generational musical shift in the foundation of popular music. The funk and rock that grounded me really are passé. Solange is using live musicians, but in a post hip hop and (D'Angelo) Voodoo way. As for Derrick Hodge, he just strikes me as a very confident composer who feels none of the pressure to be flashy that the great players of my generation had. To top it off, I think it may be time to stick a fork in slap, no matter how much I personally love it.
uhhhh....
