Is it the feel in the fingers, or the true vintage sound?
To me, every bass sounds better with rounds, even for blues or soul sounds, but it's a matter of personal taste, of course.

I always wonder what's the reason for that flats hype.
Is it the feel in the fingers, or the true vintage sound?
To me, every bass sounds better with rounds, even for blues or soul sounds, but it's a matter of personal taste, of course.
For me it's both feel and sound. I enjoy the smoothness of flats and the low frequency fundamental they give up.
The fact that they don't wear frets is just the cherry on top.
I'm not a fan of the P, or bursts...or tort for that matter. Let me go ahead and put that out there. Dang, that is a thing of beauty and you are a very lucky man. Congratulations.

For me, I just can't get a fat, solid fundamental out of roundwounds without muting them to oblivion. Feel plays a big part too, especially with the LaBellas like the OP's got... they're so smooth you can run a pick down the length without so much as a zing or scrape.

I gigged it last night for the first time. Showed it to my band and soundman and their jaws dropped - loved the way it looked. I ran in through a TU-3 tuner and EBS MultiComp and into my Aguilar TH500 (mids and bass bumped - my usual) and into a stack of DB112NT cabs. The 61's tone control was wide open. I was amazed with how perfect it sounded. I usually have to tweak each bass' tone knob to suit my needs but this was dead on at 100%. Happy! We broke into our first tune and I looked up at our soundman after a few bars and he was waving thumbs up at me. I figured it was the bass. He pulled me aside between sets and told me that its the most perfect bass tone he has ever worked with. Very flattering! Furthermore, my playing last night was through the roof. The bass allowed me to tap into a whole new realm of inspiration. I was on absolute fire and the band let me know after the gig. All were like "wow - don't ever sell that bass!" Everything finally felt "right."
I've reached my pinnacle. I'm at the top and its a extremely satisfying and liberating feeling. I wish this feeling to all of you. What's the coolest is that I got engaged to my dream woman and acquired my dream bass within the same month.

That honestly HAS TO BE the most attractive player wear that I've seen on a bass in quite some time. Hell, it's not even mine, and I wish this bass could talk. I'd even pay to hear the stories it could tell.
I'm not gonna be rude and ask what you paid, but, did you get yourself a good deal? After playing it so long, was the previous owner bummed when he handed it over to you? I truly believe I'd actually shed a tear if I were to sell a couple of my basses. Great score, man.

half the point of a good bass is that it sounds good without fiddling. same with anything, i own some very cool vintage drums that sound good tuned the right way with the right heads... and others that just sound good no matter what.

You can see where the thumb wore out little spaces at specific postions on the back of the neck. that is the difference between "reliced" and an actually played bass.

Can't for the life of me figure out why it's rude though, it's an instrument, it's nice to have some kind of guide on what something like that would set one back or what I should pay for one if I ever find one available.
Sort of like keeping the selling price up permanently in the classifieds. Useful info, I don't know, dum de dum.
