..but I broke the chain within five minutes. I forgot to tension it. I bought a new chain. I was just out in the dark cutting things down, great fun! There is something a little creepy about hearing a chainsaw at night, at least according to my neighbor.

anybody have any good chainsaw stories?

Ou rold chainsaw used a thick red oil on the chain, that pooled on the chain if you let the saw sit for a while. We thought it was funny to let it sit for a few minutes, then turn it on adn watch red liquid fly all over. It looked liek some terrible 90's horror movie.

Nice, you are halfway to a campy horror movie right there.

If you get down to using it for a while at a time be sure to periodically stop it and check the tension of the chain as you use it. Many tend to loosen a bit and you have to tighten them every so often during the time you're using it.

Makes sense. I shaved off about five of the little teeth on the old chain, would it be unsafe to just dremel then down completely and re-use it? (14 inch chain)

I used a saw ( eh close enough ) to cut down some of the foliage on a neighbor's property that was blocking my beach house's view. Fortunately, they never asked us about it. I don't know how we could've possibly gotten out of such a situation.

I have just bought the umpteenth handle for the axe. I seem to have bad hand/eye coordination with and will slam the handle onto whatever it is I am chopping up. I probably average about one bad miss for every twenty or thirty swings.

The maul was the same way, but we put a woven fiber/hard plastic handle on it and I have broken it yet.

Cool score with the chainsaw, they are one the few yard working tools that are as fun to use as they are functional. A branch saw is the only thing that comes close (think chainsaw on a ten foot stick :D)

Oh, and don't chop wood with sandals on. :D

i had to chain saw the tree out of my brand new truck a few years ago after Hurricane Isabel.

on slightly similar topic, i bought a drill press yesterday. must have been a day for tool shopping. :hyper:
