I got a story and a question.

Different scenario, same moral: I had a real hate on for a kid in high school, too. No fighting, so much, just total mutual disrespect. He was your typical "rich kid" that let you know he thought he was better, etc, etc, etc.

About 8 years after highschool, I saw him at a bar during Christmas break. I was full-on loaded. I matter-of-factly informed the group I was with that I really didn't like this guy and was going to go give him the ass whipping he should have gotten a few years back. This was and still is totally not my nature.

I grabbed my half empy bottle and got up. A handful of my friends got up and grabbed me and forced me back into the chair. I SWEAR if they had let me go I'd have gone to jail that night. But they talked me out of it.

My point isn't to brag: it's entirely possible he'd have beat me down. My point is that my friends brought up the same point that others here have: he may or not be the same person he was in highschool. Why punish him for his past? You held on to it, that your problem to deal with. He could be the most gracious, forgiving, generous person in your town and he might regret his dealings with you daily.

Now he's facing more punishment than he has ever deserved and you're not sure if you care if he dies? Look, I'll admit I still hold a bit of a grudge for ol' boy in the bar, but I'm not so sure he deserves a "Hey, Matt! Remember me?" right before a bottle hits his head. He surely doesn't deserve to lose his limbs.

Do you normally put money in those jars? If the answer is no, then move on, there is nothing to see here.
If the answer is yes, then throw in a couple of bucks or instant Karma is going to get you, and it's gonna knock you right in the other head.

Here's what I think: Donate as much money as you can for him to get better. then when he is better, go beat the **** out of him.

No, but really, I'd say do the donate in person thing. It doesn't have to be a lot, just show him that your a bigger man to look over all the crap he gave you in highschool.

Are you pushing my leg?

Give the guy a friggan dollar.

It won't make squat of a difference to his ultimate outcome. The scales will balance.
You have the ultimate satisfaction of rising above it and being the better man.

If not that, go to his hospital room and give him the ol' "neener, neener, neener" laugh and leave the room.

You may find that when you get to his room, he will want to apologize sincerely for being such a tool in the past and you will both be healed in some respects.

hmm... you could give him the dollar, and feel morally superior, "holier than thou" and all pretentious for a while

You could do nothing, and smile that while there's still plenty of suffering in the world, at least it's happening to someone who deserves it

Or you could ask to meet him, walk into his hospital room, ask "So, where are your friends now?", then while it all dawns on him shout "THIS... IS... SPARTA!" and kick his bed over.

So, smug "holier than thou", smug "suffering... sometimes it's a good thing" or awesomeness. Your call.

;)

There are too many good people in the world, that you could be donating your money to.

My brother got F-in cancer, man. If my childhood bully was dying, I'd go to his bed and LAUGH DEAD IN HIS FACE. "HAHA bitch, karma's a mutha F-a!"

There's no room in this world any more for rotten people. He's paying his price. Feel good, that it's not YOU with the parasite.

It's the same as my gal friends, feeling good about their former dirtbag boyfriends, getting into legal trouble or whatever, knowing that they got treated like crap by the dude and feeling great that karma got them back.

Same as the criminal who gets paralysed cuz he was trying to break into the store to rob it. Karma's a bitch. HAHA.

Things that happen in this world have a lot to do what we ourselves cause. He beat you up in school. Were you REALLY innocent and blameless? People can only do the things to us that we let them. So if he beat you up a lot, shame on you for not doing anything. There is always something you can do. So the high school thing is not all his fault, I'm sure you had some part to play, no matter what it was.

That being said, what goes around comes around. I'm not saying everyone who has a disease or tragedy deserves it, but this time it looks like maybe he pulled in something that he deserved on some level. I had a boss who cheated all his customers (he ran a gymnastics company) didn't pay his workers (he still owes me $500), cancelled the health insurance without telling them but kept collecting the money and then when they left the company he sued them and dragged the court case out so they had to declare bankruptcy. While he was dragging the court case out he got a brain tumor. After they operated he couldn't remember anything and basically has to have someone care for him. So, in that case an evil person brought on something himself.

I save my charity dollars for causes I know will actually help people and for charities that use the money for their cause, not for their own pockets. I want it to help those who deserve help. Plus, God helps those who help themselves.

I'm very surprised that so many people here feel that only good people deserve help. :scowl:

It's not that just good people deserve help, it's that good people deserve help BEFORE the bad people.

Fundamental axiom of business: Reward up statistics, penalize down statistics. Do not reward down statistics or the result will be a down statistic.

This is why you give someone who does not work a free house and he/she trashes it. Reward someone for being a scumbag, you'll continue to get a scumbag. Reward someone who is a little down on their luck, help them get on their feet and they will reward society by becoming a contributing member and also help others in return.

Example: I was a good student and went to college on partial scholarship. My parents didn't give me a dime. I graduated in 4 years and have a good job. My brother did not get any scholarships, my parents decided to help him because he "wasn't as smart and didn't get good grades." Result: flunked out of first college for partying. Took five more years to get bachelors. Got low-paying job. Lived at home. Changed his mind on what he wants to do. At 28 FINALLY moved out and is back in school for a different degree. They rewarded him for being "not as smart" and look what happened. He never worked hard.

Don't reward down statistics.
