I got my BAM 210!

 10? As in, all the way up? Or do you mean 10 o'clock in terms of knob position? 'Cause I cant imagine being in a place big enough to turn up to 10! You're gonna start breaking things!

Yup, 10. We can seat something like 700 in there, with 30ft ceilings probably. If I turn it down much farther I can't hear it over the monitors for the guitar and vocals. Everything is PA assisted, but I don't go through the monitors. I don't get to stand by the amp, I'm about 10-15ft away, so I've got to have it loud. I've got the pre-gain around 5 and the post around 6, lows cranked, highs cranked, and the mids at probably 6. I run a bit of compression when we're playing loud stuff, and flick it off when something has to be delicate. I run the main volume up around 9-10. Input trim is almost all the way down because it starts to clip if it's much higher than that. I've basically got the amp set so that I can play it right at the point before it starts clipping almost all the time. I've actually considered getting a more powerful set-up, but if I go any louder the sound guys will probably make me turn it down.

I've tried to use the tweeter, but it hisses. I emailed Peavey and they said that it was normal and nothing was wrong that needed to be fixed or replaced. Dunno, but it doesn't add much to the sound that I like anyway.

I do like the Redhead amp, but I couldn't get the punch and volume I like out of it.

Damn dude... you must be playing serious f-ing loud. Have you thought about an extension cab for it? Might be easier on the amp and make it last longer at those levels. Good to hear the amp can take that kind of abuse :)

Eh, I figured as long as it's not being pushed to clipping then it should last ok. :) I have heavy fingers on the strings, but I'm not always playing it as hard as I can... so it does get some rest. I play in a praise team, and it looks like they are about to buy the amp to use from now on, and I don't think the other bass player plays it nearly as loud as I do. I also don't think we've got any more room on the stage right now for an ex-cab. Between the guitar (and the backup for broken strings, and the acoustic for a few songs), his amp, backup singer, me and my amp, keyboard, drummer, secondary percussion (with bongos and such), and the choir, while trying to keep the baptistry in view and having a small pulpit, there's not a whole lot of space up there.

It is fun though.

Well, that explains that. What kind of bass or effects are your running to clip the input that bad? I had a DiMarzio Split P pickup in my P-Bass, and that was the highest output pickup I've ever used. Even then, I had the input trim at 12 o'clock and it wasn't clipping. I'm really curious as to how you're getting that kind of clipping with such low gain.

well dude you have your bass cranked, are you stupid?

if you turn the bass to 12 o clock and same with the highs and the mids you wont have to be as loud, when you have the bass cranked your amp is really pushing hard to do the low notes, therefore reducing volume.

If I turn the bass down to 12 o'clock I won't be able to hear the amp at all. My mids and highs have to compete with the three monitors which are arrayed around me on the stage which are pumping out the lead guitar and vocals (which, if you remember, is the entire reason why I want it so loud in the first place). I'm not in the monitors at this point, for various reasons. My mids and highs don't stick out a great deal in that environment. The large low end is necessary to carry the sound through to me and the drummer (who is even farther away). I'm not worried about playing loud just to be loud, I have to hear it or else I can't play very well. I have to worry about all that, and also working out something that the people at the sound board can work with. I adjust things so that I can comprimise between "hearability" and pleasing tones. That only happens for me at the volumes and settings I'm at right now. Not to mention the bass was cranked that high to begin with on the preset I modified... so you can blame Peavey for that.

Also, I don't want the whole thing to sound like crud. I'm not sure how you adjust your eq, but I try to do it based on the sound that comes out. I like the sound I've got (mostly). If my amp has to work hard to do that, then it has to work hard. I've tried every amp and cab in almost every combo that the amp will allow, I use the one I like, and I set it how I like it. I'm not just trying to get volume, I'm trying to get a sound I like at a volume that I need.

As far as my intelligence is concerned, I'm not here to impress anyone. Sorry if I disappoint you.

No effects. The bass runs into a wireless, with its own gain setting, which is down quite a bit (we run two different basses through it, so it's got to be set up fairly neutrally). I use an active 5 string Ibanez, and it's volume rarely gets above half, and then it never gets over 3/4 up. Part of the problem is the cruddy wireless, my bass can peak it without ever getting close to being full on (I have to watch my volume setting and playing style very closely to keep it in control). I say it's cruddy not because of that, but because it cuts out quite frequently. But I never clip out the input on the bass now, I made sure of that.

And just to clarify, when I said the input trim was "almost all the way down" I mean that it's maybe at 1/4, so it's not as far down as I make it seem.

Let's make no mistake, the thing is loud. The way I've got it set is louder than any factory preset I've tried on it. But when I started playing, I was literally standing facing the amp (which was a hartke 15 with 200w into it) playing. I like having the sound all up on me, because that's what I'm used to. I'm careful not to overdrive any of the equipment I use, but I take it as far as I can without clipping. Heck, when we get everything like we (the band) want it, the crowd starts to complain about it hurting their ears... so it's still not "perfect," but it's what we can do.

Is there anything else yall'd like to know about how we're set? :)

Ye gods... looks like you also need to worry about your hearing. Please please tell me you wear earplugs..?

have you ever actually tried this while playing with your band??? there is something called "cutting through" if you just put your bass at 12 0 clock and all the other eq's you would hear your self alot better, you can still adjust the eq a little if you want alittle more bass or a litttle less highs.

Yup, tried it. Like I said, my mids and highs have too much to compete with in the same freq. spectrum. It's the low end that cuts through the rest of it, because I'm generally the only thing in that area of the sound. If I turn the bass down, the whole thing is noticably quieter when we're playing.

Oh come on. Personal opinion is not fact.

Wow... this thread took off! As far as this comment goes, where in my post did I say FACT: This thing spanks it? Nowhere. I have used both amps. For the style I play, the peavey spanked the eden in both tone and volume. Of course, this is only my opinion. I love the metro combo... I was going to buy one before I played the BAM. I'm not slighting Eden gear, as Eden still happens to be one of my favorite sounding amps... although more along the lines of a WT550 with a 410. So I apologize... IN MY OPINION, the peavey spanks it. :) As always, your mileage may vary.

Get an extension cab immediately. You can get a 4 ohm cab as the BAM will go down to 2 ohms. You will notice the difference the second you start playing. Stop maxing your amp out. Get an extension cab and the BAM will go up to 500 watts.

Get an extension cab.

Did I mention, get an extension cab? If not, I highly recommend an extension cab.

Then turn the bass down to a normal level, like maybe 12 o-clock max. :)
