I gotta stop buying gear and start playing !!

If I spent as much time as I do looking at gear and buying /selling stuff building the perfect rig Id be ten times the player I am now, the only time practise sees the light of day is at a gig ! Damn gas........

If there was a club for this problem, I would be a founding member! But I have to say, having nice instruments makes me play them more makes me get better as a player. I'll never be more than "don't quit your day job" good, but hey, having fun.

I'm always surprized at the people more into buy/selling/mod their stuff than the actual playing ...

But only playing at gig I think the vast majority of people are fall into that category

I have the same problem. In the last 6 months I purchased 1 Warwick, 3 P's, an amp and a cabinet plus a lot of parts/accessories to upgrade them. The Warwick's gone though. And I only had 1 gig. But I agree with @bholder, it makes me play more and practice more.

I've owned a total of 7 basses since 1970 or so. I don't get the the whole GAS thing.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I certainly spend more time looking than playing... The real stupid thing is that I'm too broke to afford anything I'm looking at!

I had that problem for awhile until I figured out that 90% of my sound came out of my hands and not basses and amps. A friend of mine was amazed that I could play his Fodera and my Ibanez and make them sound exactly the same.

It does help to have good equipment though. If you have a specific sound in mind, you may need certain gear to get to it. But once you have it, you don't need anymore stuff.
