I guess I gotta get a wallet??

Wow, didn't expect there to be this much manpurse love on here.
We're bassists. We're the oddballs of the universe. Someone has to purchase manpurses, snuggies, practice yoga, watch Monty Python, upload youtube videos of our cats, attend renaissance faires, perform magic tricks... clearly the drummers of the world aren't going to be picking up the slack on this laundry list.

Believe me, I'm far from being normal, but I never knew it was our, and by association, my duty to wear the manpurse. Well, guess I'm off to the manpurse outlets.

We're not entirely uniform as a species, but we bassists are to goofiness what Floridians are to sensibility offending crimes. Not everyone in Miami will eat your face, but if you need your face eaten off, your best bet is a visit to The Sunshine State.

My wallet is similar to this:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Big differences:

  • There are no credit cards in there
  • There is no Ten Dollar Bill in there
  • Mine is a lot more worn
  • Mine has a lot of random pieces of paper, and perhaps some lint or fuzz
  • Mine has one of these:

Do not think about wallets. Just buy one, and try it out. Do NOT start a thread about socks.

Here are the type of socks I wear:

I like these briefs:

The type of toothbrush I use:

This is my favorite hand sanitizer:

But here is the biggest secret to my success. Unscented, all-natural hair conditioner:

No perfumes! I use their shampoo, as well. I get it at Sally's, using my Sally's card, which is, (you guessed it,) IN MY WALLET!

This my "wallet"
http://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-1292/Poly-Bags-Reclosable/3-x-4-2-Mil-Reclosable-Bags
It's a 3 by 4 inch zip top plastic bag. I carry my DL, bank card, a couple credit cards, car insurance cards, medical insurance cards, and other assorted important stuff I might need from time to time. Waterproof, fits in your front pocket with no bulge or problems. It allows me to carry my little pocket piece in the usual wallet position so if someone waylays me and demands my wallet, I've got a little surprise for them. Only drawback is they only last 3 or 4 months, but you can get a gross for about what a top quality wallet would cost so it's not like it's a problem when one wears out.

People occasionally ask what it is and I tell them it's my high tech fishing wallet.

As long as we're sharing, this one is mine: (look at the brown for better photos, but I have the black)

Pretty bulky even with nothing in it, but has plenty of pockets, both revealed and concealed, for all I could want to put in there. It has held up OK after 5 or 6 years of use, but it has been washed several times due to my carelessness, so I can't blame it. The zipper between the folds is pretty useless imo, and there's also a zipper in the bill slot (also superfluous, imo). Both zippers broke, so I don't really need/have the desire to use them. I guess they were for change, but if I have change, it just goes in my front pockets. Overall, I'd probably give it a solid 5 or 6 out of 10, especially for the price.

I don't like buying wallets. I can't seem to find just the one I want right away. For me, it usually involves driving around to a few different stores or roaming around in some mall searching. Thankfully there have been some good links and tips in this thread. I'll have to bookmark it for the next time I need one.

The health insurance card is something you'll want to carry with you when going to the doctor's office on regularly scheduled visits or to the hospital or urgent care facility in cases of emergencies.
You don't have to put a wallet in your back pocket. I always carry mine in the front pocket.

I have discovered one thing about wallets: if you sit a lot at work or in a vehicle, don't sit on your wallet. I suggest you get in the habit of having a consistent stash location to facilitate this.

I have to agree 100% on this one. My old job was sitting (or driving) half a day and warehouse work on my feet for the rest. I had brutal back pain until i realized to take the damn wallet out of my pocket while in sitting position. Another vote for the bi-fold too.

I carry a standard leather wallet and keep all my cards in various pockets, using the outermost slots for the cards I pull out most = gas, credit card. library card, driver's license, debit card.
I carry my health insurance card with me, because your gonna want that if you get yourself into a medical situation/emergency.
Also carry a few business cards I collect, but have to clear these out every so often, otherwise things get bulky fast.

A few years ago I started carrying my wallet in my left hip pocket. Sometimes would jab the buttocks or even put 'em to sleep. Was thinking' this couldn't be good for nerves, or spine, or posture. Must say keeping back pockets empty works well!

Do not carry your social security card in your wallet. duh. Just like you don't keep your car title in the car.

I carry the bare minimum...1 debit card, 1 credit card, and my driver's license in my pocket with my phone. If I am going somewhere that other cards are required, then I take them as well. I have some cash in another pocket, and that's it.

Buy a Saddleback, your grand kids will fight over it when you die.
