I personally am beginning to hate half rounds. I played them for a while on a few different basses and they are starting to just sound off to me... not to mention that they have a really odd texture until you get some dirt on 'em
To me they are the ultimate equalizer of basses- they make all comparble basses sound EXACTLY alike.
A Sadowsky Jazz with flats will sound like a Squire Jazz in seconds.
nor do they change anyone's minds. that said, i'm drawn to them like politicians to money.Threads that start with "I hate x" that are followed by folks trying to convince the OP of the contrary position (or chime in with agreement) are often not very productive or interesting.
I think you should move to clarinet for starting a thread like this. but just like your opinion on flats thats my opinion on people who start threads like this![]()
i use both and like both for different reasons and hate both because neither will do what the other one does, which forces me to make a choice since i only bring one bass to my gigs. that choice fluctuates, but most of the time it's rounds.
however, i couldn't give a crap what anyone else uses.

aw, thanks tim! and for the record, i do care about what you use. i hope everyone has a nice time with their strings.Well, actually what I use is............
oh yeah, forgot!!
You know what what Jimmy? I thought your P bass lytes with roundwounds sounded darned good behind Bowzer, and all those other 50's acts.![]()
...which is my opinion of people who've been on TB less time that I have--having any opinions on anything at all!...Which is my opinion of people who've been on TB for barely a year knocking other people's posting decisions![]()

. You can cover up all kinds of gaffs under all that mud - just keep thumping along in time to the music and nobody will ever know. I love it that's true. wasn't bad...just wasn't my thing. fortunately i couldn't hear it very well[/QUOTE
The wife and I noticed that as well.
But those rounds, with the Quarter Pound pickups (not exactly "vintage" according to folks) sounded awesome, and thats all that really matters isn't it?![]()

Just out of curiosity, do you like the way a double/upright bass sounds?
