I hate flats! am I nuts?

I personally am beginning to hate half rounds. I played them for a while on a few different basses and they are starting to just sound off to me... not to mention that they have a really odd texture until you get some dirt on 'em

I'm having a love/hate relationship with halfrounds myself right now. Once I got them past the "sticky" stage I really liked them on my P's, but either I need to use a heavier gauge(I'm currently using 45 -100's) or switch to flats because I notice I end up "clicking" the frets if I play even a bit aggresively(fingerstyle). I was fighting that last night playing live with the band.
Do any of you know is the string tension of chromes different than halfrounds of the same gauges???

To me they are the ultimate equalizer of basses- they make all comparble basses sound EXACTLY alike.
A Sadowsky Jazz with flats will sound like a Squire Jazz in seconds.

Saying that would equate to denying the variety in flats sounds - which IS there.

That's like saying putting rounds on a bass is making all of them sound that same - zingy and clanky. There is absolutely no truth to that statement either.

i use both and like both for different reasons and hate both because neither will do what the other one does, which forces me to make a choice since i only bring one bass to my gigs. that choice fluctuates, but most of the time it's rounds.

however, i couldn't give a crap what anyone else uses.

Well, actually what I use is............

oh yeah, forgot!!:hyper:

You know what what Jimmy? I thought your P bass lytes with roundwounds sounded darned good behind Bowzer, and all those other 50's acts. :hyper:

aw, thanks tim! and for the record, i do care about what you use. i hope everyone has a nice time with their strings.

I think you should move to clarinet for starting a thread like this. but just like your opinion on flats thats my opinion on people who start threads like this ;)

Hatred received. Thanks. Happy Labor Day.

Thanks to others for the good input tho. I must admit that while my vintage hofner with pryramid golds sounds like a toy in my hands, it sounds GREAT in the mix. So that's something. It' just that prominent or soloed flats sound that I dislike so much
I may get a Squire or SX and stick some flats on 'em for a year.
