So once I get this, I won't care if the soundman wants to tie a string to a dixie cup to get my bass signal!

I seem to remember saying a while ago in another thread that a programmable VT would be my idea of perfection. I always like the idea of the programmable BDDI but the lack of mid control always put me off.

And I've been looking into multi-channel drive pedals, I think I shall start saving my pennies as it looks to be exactly what the doctor ordered.

Not to change the topic too much (still related) but my TC electronic RH 450 head has three presets and all variables (eq, gain, compressor, and tube tone, which is similar to the drive control on a sansamp) can be preset and accessible via a 4 button footswitch (4th button is mute). This amp also has a terrific direct out that can be post/pre. So for me, the Tech 21 would be superfluous. Also, used a Sansamp for a few years that really suited a couple of my basses, but I have found that I don't like it with my Sadowsky setup. To my ears it has a kind of pinched tone I am not crazy about. I have never tried the VT though and maybe I would like that better. In my quest to have less gear to haul around, the TC head has solved a lot of my problems. (Tube Tone sounds amazing BTW, can go from adding harmonics and grit to your tone, to full on fuzz.)

So if im right. you can create a sound and then SAVE it? and then just switch tones if you want?
That would be so cool.. i had my VT on a gig and al lyou need to do is just touch the VOL knob and it boosts the signal fast .. it would be nice to have everything set so a little knob bump wont slam the PA board with too much gain all of a sudden.

Seeing as the OP posted one and didn't come back, I wouldn't worry about going going off topic!

I too have been on a quest to strip down my rig. Got it down to just LMII head and a compressor. The TC head does sound great, and I could gig with just that head and a cab and would prob do everything I need, but I like the LMII and my compressor. The only thing I really miss is a bit of dirt. This could be the very thing I've been after.

Sounds like a daft question, and going off topic too now, but can anyone comment how transparent the VT can be. I mean, can I turn the 'character' off so to speak whilst keeping drive. Bit of a nonsense question I know, but with a few patches to play with on this new version, I was thinking I could save 'coloured' patches with the Ampeg amp tones, and something a little less coloured that just sounds like my amp with a little bit of overdrive dirt, all from the same box.

when the sound man gets paid to ruin my sound. i usually end up ruining some PA gear. i usually say something through the PA about it, then if it continues, i may take a mic and throw bery hard on the floor. see how he likes that one. but i have never ran into a sound man who didnt want to mic and also use a direct line.

if i cannot ruin any gear, i try to at least ruin his day

Dude, you made my day! That's the funniest thing I've heard in a while! Thanks for the kicks! :bassist::D

kirk, you'll be able to save up to 6 presets in 2 banks for one instrument, or 3 presets per instrument if you use two. it's apparently a lot like the bd deluxe.

ga, i don't know how "transparent" you'd call it since it has a speaker sim that cuts off highs at 5k and ampegs up the lows, but it can be set to near flat response.

btw, once i get this thing, i will never pile on in one of these threads again. hey, they only want me di'd, i'll be happy to oblige. life's too short to get all worked up anymore.

BWAHAHAHA! now that was funny! ;)

"mmm, yeah, i'm going to go ahead and get you to put this IMP di in line before that weird effects pedal thing so i can get a nice clean bass sound from you. great, thanks!"
