I play Blues/Blues-Rock, Jam Band stuff, and just recently a BL mentioned my hair. Would a haircut help me get hired more? I am serious. Here's me (my hair's actually a bit longer now):

Seriously, I'm not pretty. But would a haircut clean me up?

    Earth, but just barely.
    I'm not wearing pants
I thought musicians were supposed to have long hair.

I am pretty well buzzed these days. Until I was about 24 I had hair down to my ***. If you want long hair, don't cut it. This is the music business, not the army.

  4. It may help with more upscale venues but really if you like long hair keep it. Nobody can tell you how to look. If you feel its time to cut it then go for it. I'm the opposite, long hair looks odd on me so I've always kept a really short high and tight

  5. No worries mate. Just don't give a f about what your BL has to say about your appearance...

But, IF you would like to look more 'clean' yourself, I'd start with the facial hair.

With it being so hot (and the fact that I am looking for a 2nd job to supplement my income) have me thinking about a buzz...

I see more buzzcuts in music these days than ever.

Just pull your hair back for interviews and you'll be good.

Well, I think it looks fine. But you should wear some clothes, at least a t-shirt ... like your friend there.

Yeah, longhairs are becoming endangered species. I definitely feel for you guys in the heat. I go out back with the electric clippers once a month.

With competency and talent, the more you have the more you can do what you want.

  12. Personally, as long as you look neat and clean, I would think you would be fine. I always think it's sweet and endearing when you see some long-haired metal guy all scrubbed and cleaned up and wearing a tie to play at church or something. You could always pull your hair back if you feel you need a more clean-cut look. Speaking as a girl, it looks like you have nice hair and you can pull off the longer length.

I pull my hair back when I play and I have found a fantastic sunflower scrunchie does wonders! :)

    You call that long?
    That ain't long.
I keep mine in a braid or use 4-5 bands in it.
Wear it the way you want.

  14. No, and don’t worry about it either - your hair looks fine, so just focus on playing good.

Sometimes I'm completely bald, hair length doesn't really matter as much these days...

I don't think the length of your hair matters.

What's the market like in your area, are there lots of opportunities?

I don't think any reasonable human being would expect blues/rock musicians to look neat and tidy.

I would get a trim, and go clean-shaven. Right now you're looking perhaps too '90s-grunge.

    (hey, you asked for opinions!)

The day may well come when you WISH you could have long hair (well, many long hairs, not just one or two). Cherish these days!!! :)
