I just bought a T-40!

I got it adjusted and I didn't have to pull off the tuners. I had been trying to get a deep well socket in there and it wasn't getting past the wood routing so I tried a regular 1/4" drive socket and it dropped right in! I found a screwdriver with a 1/4" blade and used it to turn the socket. Bingo! I gave it one full turn and it's a lot better. I'll let it sit for a day or two and check it again but I think I'm pretty close.

Now I've just got to find a new pickup switch and I'll be in business.

After I took the pix I noticed a bunch of grimy smears all over it. I chose this pic because it hid them the best.

But yeah, it's pretty sweet looking. :) The trussrod adjustment has straightened out the neck great. I thought it might need some more tweaking since it was so far out to begin with but it's holding nicely. I really need to fix the pup selector switch ASAP so I can start playing it with the band.

Supposedly Chip Todd kept track of where each demo came from via decimal points in the number.

Guitar dept 2. Doesn't have any decimal points at all. I played an original demo when they were first being shipped labeled zero, but don't remember any decimal points. This could be that same bass. It's a little rogh compared to my 31 bass which is mint except some sight belt buckle rash. The zero has the initials I. R. faded on the upper horn like there were stickers that had been removed.

My first bass was an early ('80 - '81) Peavey T-40 - natural blonde with a black pickguard. And it was built like a TANK (hahaha). Seriously - it was heavy. But it sounded good, and looked cool. Sorry I sold it years ago to some guy's kid who then "punked" it up and ruined it, then pawned it.

I don't know what the big deal is about these T-40's to you guys. Yeah they were built good, were heavy as hell and sounded alright, but to slap on these, It is virtually impossible. I traded mine in 1990 for an active aria pro which was lighter. These to me, as they were in 1990 have always been in the 200-250 dollar range in worth price. If you pay more than 300 bux, it better be in mint condition or you have been robbed.

Has it ever occurred to you that not everyone slaps of that they might have another bass for this purpose?

Not sure why you say it's impossible to slap on a T-40. It's actually very easy and provides a great slap tone. You just have to work between the pickups, no problem!!

Well personally, I've never been a fan of slap bass so whether it's good for that or not is absolutely no concern to me.

And I think it's funny that everyone keeps mentioning how heavy these are. If the day comes when I can't hold an 11 lb bass for a couple hours (vs 8 lb for my P) then I've got a lot bigger problems than just a "heavy" bass. I mean, come on! 3 extra pounds! Maybe it's time to start hitting the gym every once in awhile instead of McDonalds!

None of mine are > 11lbs and I regularly walk and cycle quite long distances with a very heavy backpack. The T40 has a nice balance to me.
