I just bought a T-40!

Legends Guitars in Tampa has a minty looking T-40 (natural/maple) for $225; I saw it saturday. I don't know if it had the case, but the condition of the bass indicated it did.

I don't know what the big deal is about these T-40's to you guys. Yeah they were built good, were heavy as hell and sounded alright, but to slap on these, It is virtually impossible.

Huh. I learned to slap on a T-40!

Bought my first one in 1980; it got stolen from my apartment a year later. Bought my second one, and it got stolen from my apartment 2 years later! Decided T-40s were bad luck & stopped buying them.

But they were surprisingly good sounding for the money ($300 new, which was at least half of what a Fender was selling for in those days). The only complaint -- besides the weight, obviously -- that I thought was a legitimate gripe was the flat fingerboard: anyone schooled on a Fender freaked out when they tried to play my Peavey. Not sure I could tolerate one now.

picked up my 3rd last night -- my first 'burst.

There it is (minus the phase switch)! So pretty.

My first bass was a T-40 burst. Bought used in 1989 and sold in '91 when I switched to guitar. I just switched back to bass. Sigh...

Anyone buy a used T-40 similar to the one pictured above from McNeil Music in Binghamton, NY in the early 90's?

Personally, I don't think any instrument Peavey has made is half as attractive or as original as the T-series guitars and basses.

just picked up a black body on ebay for uber-cheap ($15!). Plan is to transplant everything from my natural one to the black body.

Well personally, I've never been a fan of slap bass so whether it's good for that or not is absolutely no concern to me.

And I think it's funny that everyone keeps mentioning how heavy these are. If the day comes when I can't hold an 11 lb bass for a couple hours (vs 8 lb for my P) then I've got a lot bigger problems than just a "heavy" bass. I mean, come on! 3 extra pounds! Maybe it's time to start hitting the gym every once in awhile instead of McDonalds!

He he he! That and worrying about a basses resale value are both funny to me. Sorry guys and Gals, but that is how I feel.....

Just joined the peavey club last week and seems to be a lot of T-40 stuff going around. Here is mine with the case that I got on Craigslist for $100

I traded mine in 1990 for an active aria pro which was lighter. These to me, as they were in 1990 have always been in the 200-250 dollar range in worth price. If you pay more than 300 bux, it better be in mint condition or you have been robbed.

why would you wan't to slap your bass? and eeeewwww active.yuck.
and all my basses are heavy i like 'em that way.
